10 Workout Songs to Get Your Body Moving

By , SparkPeople Blogger
It's the third full week in January. Is your motivation to exercise still going strong? If you feel yourself starting to slip, maybe it's time to refresh your workouts—or your approach to them. One of my favorite things to do when I'm feeling blah about being active is to update my iPod with some fresh new songs. It makes "just another run" seem new and interesting, and when I find the right songs, I couldn't even sit still while listening to them if I tried!

So here are 10 workout songs that I am completely obsessed with lately. When I hear these, it's get-up-and-go-time! Hopefully you'll find a few new favorites from this list, too.

(Click on the song title to hear a preview and/or to purchase the mp3 from amazon.com.)

Pink – Raise Your Glass

Bodyrockers – I Like The Way

Neon Trees – Animal

Vampire Weekend – A-Punk

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Heads Will Roll

Michael Jackson – P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)

Chromeo – Bonafied Lovin

Nina Simone – Sinnerman (Felix Da Housecat's Heavenly House Mix)

Girl Talk – In Step

Michael Mind – Ride Like The Wind (Klaas Remix)

I think this is a great post. Having the right music totally makes your workout that much easier - and having the wrong music makes it unbearable! I've had days where something slow and depressing comes on in the middle of my workout and all my motivation just disappears.

I will also admit to a guilty pleasure and say that I've found Lady Gaga's upbeat songs to be perfect for a workout. A tad embarrassing, but that's why it's a guilty pleasure. :) Thanks for the suggestions, I'll add some to my playlist! Report
I love to get moving to any of Janet & Micheal Jackson's fast tempo songs. I also have ALOT of Beyonce' & Rhianna on my player right now!!! Report
Thanks for posting this! There are some great songs here. Report
Agree with Jackson's PYT and lots of other Michael and Janet Jackson tunes.

Here's a few that work for me:

Walking on Sunshine - Katrina & the Waves
Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen
Runnin' Down A Dream - Tom Petty
Runaround & Crash Burn - Blues Traveler
That Was Your Mother (and most of the Graceland Album) - Paul Simon
Third Wind & Eighteen - Pat Metheny (the percussion on Third Wind is AMAZING!)
Jingo - Santana (LOTS of Santana with its fiery Latin percussion just sends me on my way!)
Boddhisatva - Steely Dan
Two Princes & Little Miss Can't Be Wrong - Spin Doctors
The Who's Live at Leeds Album and selections from Quadrophrenia
Do I Do - Stevie Wonder (LOVE Stevie!)
Don't Fear the Reaper & Burnin' For You - Blue Oyster Cult Report

I will love Britney forever for a workout. Circus is my very favorite! Songs that have done it for me in the past are Since You've Been Gone- Kelly Clarkson and Bootylicious-Destiny's Child. The songs that get me to the gym in the first place (the hardest step for me) are Singing my Song-Christina Aguilera and Ask Myself-Robin Thicke. I know there aren't any really recent songs, but I like to sing along, so new songs just don't thrill me!! Report
