Christian Workout Music: 100 Uplifting Songs

By , SparkPeople Blogger
Music is important to many people. It can pick you up when you're feeling down, motivate you when you need a little push, and inspire you to go the extra mile during a workout. We love to share our favoriate workout music list suggestions here on dailySpark, and we frequently receive requests for Christian exercise music. So I've compiled a list of my top 100 Christian workout songs.

There are many genres of Christian music, and even if you don't consider yourself to be religious or spiritual, you may discover that in addition to "clean lyrics," many of these songs are uplifting and encouraging in both their titles and words, making them motivational for just about anyone.
Listening to uplifting music can help anyone feel better and more positive about life. It can provide motivation to move forward with your healthy lifestyle goals, too. So whether you are feeling depressed, stressed, discouraged, or angry, this list of songs with positive messages can turn your focus back on all that is good in your life.

I'm very traditional (or was) when I would hear "How Great Thou Art" - thought it had to be sung solemnly and slow. Then I heard it sung by Paul Paloche and realized this beautiful song should be sung joyfully, with a beat and loud! I listen to it while walking and it makes me happy and adds a bounce to my step. I also love Michael W. Smith's "You are Holy". Thanks for this blog - found some new songs to celebrate life, God and myself! Report

What a great post! I sing many of these songs with my worship team at church. You really hit the mark with the comment "many of these songs are uplifting and encouraging in both their titles and words, making them motivational for just about anyone". That is the whole point when we are working out - to be uplifted and know that we are honoring God by taking care of the body that he gave to us. Great post! Thank you so much! I look forward to downloading some of the songs that I do not already have. Report
This is a great list of songs and musicians! I would add Colton Dixon, Third Day, and Casting Crowns (bands) to the list - they have many songs that are encouraging, support our faith - giving you something to think about, and have good beats. Thanks so much for this blog! So glad for some other music ideas!

Thank you for such a great list of songs. I'm familiar with most, and they do make you want to move. Plus, Christian music is so uplifting. Thanks a bunch! Report
I love working out to fast-paced Gospel music, from Kirk Franklin to golden classics (Mahalia, anyone?). I play this often even when I'm doing housework to get into a good rhythm.

I like some CCM, but also listen to a lot of prophetic worship and soaking music. Some of that is more for dialing down that picking up the pace. So this list is helpful.

I don't feel Spark is being biased or offensive. I enjoy different workout videos they offer, including a recent Bollywood dance video that began with paying homage to Mother Earth to "ground" or "center" yourself. That's a bit offensive to me, and I obviously skip over it. But I still enjoy the moves and dances of different cultures. Everyone needs to use their best judgment and discernment. Report
Fantastic list. We create Christian workout music. I will begin working on recording these songs for our next workout series. Thanks for the great information! SpiritFit Music. Report
I like to listen to Christian music not only because of clean lyrics but also messages that really inspire me to keep on going - and that have a good driving beat especially for the treadmill. Here are my faves!
DAVID CROWDER BAND - Foreverandever, How He Loves (that usually for an inspiring cool-down)
SUPERCHICK - Stand in the Rain, Hero
JEREMY CAMP - Give you Glory (yes, I have actually raised my hands while on the elliptical at the gym with this one!), Take You Back
SANCTUS REAL - Whatever You're Doing, I'm Not Alright
BRITT NICOLE - Lost Get Found
THE AFTERS (none of these were on the list - older tunes I think) - Never Going Back to Okay (truly inspiring lyrics!), Tonight
SWITCHFOOT - This is Your Life
MIKESCHAIR - Let the Waters Rise (love it!)
MATTHEW WEST - The Motions
PLUMB (AND DAN HASELTINE FEATURED) - Drifting (great beat!)
MANDISA - My Deliverer (she wrote this about deliverance from a weight problem)
DOWNHERE - Bleed for this Love, Something Heavenly
CASTING CROWNS - Praise You in this Storm
BEBO NORMAN - I Will Lift My Eyes, Cover Me (great beat, very inspiring and worshipful)
SEVENTH DAY SLUMBER - Oceans from the Rain
CHRIS AND CONRAD - Lead Me to the Cross
LEELAND (WITH BRANDON HEATH) - Follow You (one of my faves)
NATALIE GRANT - I Will Not Be Moved (probably my favorite - especially on a very frustrating day when I need encouragement and motivation!)
TOBYMAC - Lose My Soul
and I saved the best for last... my favorite band. Love pretty much everything they've ever written but I'll just post my faves.
THE EMBER DAYS - Shine (perfect workout starter song), Silence (great beat, worshipful), Adore (good for cool-down), Run to You, Emergency (not many words, if any, but good beat), A Drop of Blood, ... seriously, if you like alternative Christian rock - check out these guys. My fave albums are Ember Days EP (first song Shine), Your Eyes Light Up and Emergency (most recent).

Hope that helps somebody out there!

Good Times by Manic Drive and Move by MercyMe both make me want to get up and do some moving. :)
