Enter to Win 1 of 5 Copies of 'Tired and Wired'

By , SparkPeople Blogger
Today we're giving away five copies of a fascinating new book: Are You Tired and Wired?

We featured this book in our "must-read" roundup earlier this month, and we were thrilled when the author offered to give away five copies of the book to lucky readers.

About the book:
There is an epidemic of fatigue running rampant in our society. Every morning, hundreds of thousands of women wake up to find themselves exhausted, overwhelmed, and overstressed. Groggily turning off the alarm, they reach for coffee, soda, or some other promise of energy. They suffer through the day—irritable, on edge, forgetful, depressed, and craving sweets. And then, at night, they have trouble sleeping. Diet and exercise don’t seem to change things—if they even have the energy to follow these programs. So what on earth is going on?

In Are You Tired and Wired?, Marcelle Pick, co-founder of Women to Women--one of the first clinics in the country devoted to providing health care for women by women—and the author of The Core Balance Diet, focuses on the root cause of these symptoms: adrenal dysfunction.

With all the stresses that exist today—from challenges at home and at work to environmental toxins to chronic health problems—the adrenal glands, which are responsible for providing the fight-or-flight hormones, can force the body to endure a constant flood of stress hormones that can ultimately lead to multiple health issues, especially severe fatigue. The good news is that through diet, lifestyle adjustments, and reprogramming of stressful emotional patterns this can all be fixed!

Pick helps readers identify which of three adrenal dysfunction profiles they fit—racehorse, workhorse, or flatliner—and then lays out an easy-to-follow, scientifically based program to help them restore adrenal balance, re-gear their metabolism, and regain their natural energy to live a happier and less-stressed life.

I see I missed the contest, but the description fits me to a T! Nice to know I'm not as alone as I thought. Adding this book to my wish list! Report
Thank you Marcelle Pick and Sparkpeople! I won a copy of the book and look forward to reading it. Thanks so much! Report
I am So Excited... I received the book today!!! :) I read the flap, and I am excited to jump in... and start reading....
Thank You SparkPeople, and everyone else involved in getting this book to me...! Report
I truly need this book. We moved to south GA from a dry climate 12 years ago. My kids have since graduated from school. I blamed the climate change, I blamed the challenges of two teenagers, I even blamed my daughter's short lived abusive marriage and the fact I am 45 and raising another child (hers). Progressively more tired, more irritable, and just plain exhausted each day before I even climb out of bed... perhaps this is the answer. No Dr. visit, medication, diet, exercise, aroma therapy, massage, or yoga practice and certainly no amount of sleep has fixed it and I keep getting worse! Other people I know are 45 and raising a grand child, have teens, and live normal lives of work, diet and exercise and don't have this problem. I am NOT normal. Report
As one who has done a lot of work to recover from chronic/adrenal fatigue and get my hypothyroidism, this book would be a wonderful resource going forward. Report
This book will be a very good read! Report
The description sounds like my life exactly. I work 40 hours/wk, commute an hour each way, have 2 kids I schlep from activity to activity, and suffer from migraines, PMDD and unexplained mood swings. I have been swearing there is some sort of imbalance, because there are no obvious "triggers" for the migraines or the moods, and the moods in particular are sudden and uncontrollable. I am dead tired by 9 p.m., but once I'm in bed, I cannot fall asleep because my brain is going 90 miles a minute and I have trouble "shutting it off". Report
I have worked in the auto industry for the last 15 years. That's 15 years of 60+ hour/ 6 day weeks, multitasking every minute, hours staring at computer screens, handling hazardous chemicals, 12+ cups of coffee, high fat and sugar diet, neck and back pain, in a "man's world" and then coming home to clean house, pay bills, and drink heavily.
Yeah, I'd say this book was written for me!
I've recently been looking for work outside the auto industry for that very reason, but it's hard because it's all I know. Report
Blunt and true to life Blog. No punches pulled nor should there be. Believe this book is straight down my alley. Report
i need this book thanks Report
I'm like everyone on seems like it was written for me! I thought it was the Diabetes making me tired but that is mostly under control! If i don't win, I'll check out Amazon!
I would like to see someone who needs it more and hasn't won anything win it!! Report
I'd love to read this book! Hope I WIN! Report
Sounds like a book I need to read. Report
Whether I win the book or not, this blog has brought to my attention an area that could be addressed in my quest for feeling good and having long-term health. Thanks. Report
I remember that my naturopath had mentioned that I had adrenal dysfunction...the supplements she had given me did not seem to make a difference... I would love this book to learn more! Report
Sounds like an interesting book, certainly one I would like to read. Although I am no longer "stressed out", I have suffered from fatigue and unrefreshing sleep for more than 20 years without finding any answers. Even a sleep study offered no answer. Perhaps this would provide some new insight. Report
Seems like a really good book...Very unfortunate the Canadian members are left out of another great contest :( Report
This sounds like a book I could really use. I have a very high level of stress and fatigue with insomnia. Hope I can win it. Report
This book just may be the answer to some of my problems. I have been suffering from chronic fatigue and haven't been able to find any answers, except maybe until now. If I don't win this book, I plan on purchasing it. Report
This book sounds like just what I need right now. I have been more tired lately. Seem to be overstressed as well lately. Please Report
Actually, I would like the book for my daughter. She is a nurse, works three 12-15 hours a week, had 2 daughters and a husband to keep in tow, and lots of animals (chickens, horses, cats, dogs). And, she seems tired most of the time.
I just want her to be healthy and happy with her life.

Thanks for the chance to win this book! I looked in our local bookstore a couple of weeks ago, and they didn't have it. I haven't been back, but I can wait a week. : ) Report
This sounds like me! I'd love to read this book, I have a feeling I could really learn a lot!
Sounds like a book I need to read. It could solve my problem! I would love to have this book! Report
I would love to have this book because I cannot remember the last time I had a full night of sleep! I do have caffeine everyday because I could not make it through a day without it. I have recently lost weight, I work-out 2 to 4 days a week, and I have revised what I eat for a healthier lifestyle. The one thing I have not been able to master is sleep! Report
This sounds like a pretty interesting book. I am always on the go even at home and my pulse is always racing. I would like to find out which adrenal dysfunction profiles I fit. Might just have to run down to the library and check it out. Report
Went ahead and ordered this book... I've struggled with the whole tired and wired thing since I was teenager, and I've always had issues with anxiety. I read several pages through its Amazon listing and I can totally relate. Very excited to get my hands on this book. Report
I could really use this book LOL. I know I am stressed thinking about the next chemo treatment. I have had 5 operations, not all cancer, since last May. I guess I am just tired of it. Report
This book sounds great and would benefit me. I'm a 29 year old full time grad student who works 3 jobs. I get plenty of sleep but still struggle to get through my days! Report
I am trying to deal with fatigue caused by chemo; I'm interested to see if anything in this book might help me. Report
I would like to win because this book sounds like it describes my life. I sleep less than 6 hours a night and it isn't uninterrupted sleep either. My life is stressful and I have hit a plateau on weight loss probably because of all the external factors. I am a SAHM of 13 and 12 YO sons. Believe me, it is stressful indeed. My one accomplishment has been doing half marathons and if I weren't carrying 50 pounds extra I would be much more successful at that. Reading this comment I feel like I need a book called "Moaning and Groaning" more! Anyway I would love to win! Report
A contributing factor in my mother's death at the age of 47 was adrenal exhaustion. I have a good friend with adrenal fatigue. I have detected signs of adrenal problems in myself, so I feel this book would be very helpful! Report
I receive a monthly email from Woman to Woman, an excellent source for women's issues. This author is a regular contributor & really seems to understand women's everyday struggles & has thought provoking actions, many natural remedies. I'll be glad to read this new book. Report
looks great!
Sounds like me! I work out hard, get to bed early, eat fairly healthy and I'm still feeling exhausted all the time! Report
I think this would be a very beneficial read for me. I'm sure there are things I could change in my lifestyle that could help my fatigue issues. It's a matter of finding out what needs changed. Report
I have thought that my adrenals have not been balanced for a long time now. I've read Susan Somers book, The Sexy Years, and think I would benefit from learning more about my hormones and adrenals. This book would be a good read for me! Report
I've been hearing about adrenal exhaustion and I've wondered about it's relationship to cortisol Report
I want this book so maybe I can get a sound night of sleep :-( Report
Right now I am sitting at the computer in my pj's waiting on my socks to wash and dry and that's it for me for the night--no tv, radio, nothing else. Just catching up on my sparking. I make a real effort NOT to be too wired or take on too many things at once (multi-tasking is a myth). Report
I would love to win this book.....just because I can learn from it!! Report
The most stress I had was being a Stay-At-Home-Mother with five children. That has no power or paycheck. LOL Report
I entered! Seems like a great book! :) Report
