I am a 66 yo SAHM. I was diagnosed with hypertension in Nov. 2009 and type 2 insulin resistant Diabetes (Jan. 22nd). My health history goes back a ways though. Back in 1998 I was diagnosed with autoimmune thyroid disease. Weight has been a battle since then. Back in 1998 I was diagnosed with autoimmune thyroid disease. Weight has been a battle since then. In Nov. 2009 I had to start on meds for hypertension and in January 2010 I started on an oral agent for my type 2 insulin resistant Diabetes. With the health issues of hypertension, Diabetes, and Hashimotos thyroiditis (autoimmune hypothyroidism) I made up my mind to make lifestyle changes once and for all because I want to live healthy! More importantly, I want to maintain these healthy habits!
I am Mom to two teens *(OK, absolutely no stress there, huh!)*
Update: The year has been one of huge transformation for me. Went from 192 lbs. in Nov. 2009 to 100 lbs. (120 lbs. in July 2010 and 100 lbs. February 2011.) I suspect my weight was over 200 lbs., but I avoided the scale. **SIGH**
2012 and 2013 brought lots of major changes. However, I have lots of support and have found ways to cope with stress and therefore have been able to maintain weight loss, continue proper nutrition and keep on exercising.
Proudly, DS graduated from basic training @ Ft. Leonard Wood in MO on 6 July 2012. He was stationed in Fairbanks, AK and on 12 August 2012 his unit was deployed. 15 August saw 3 comrades killed from an IED. Then 17 August my DS was shot and wounded by an IED as well. He was re-posted to Alaska on 20 August 2012 and has been there since. He is recuperating physically, mentally and spiritually with much support, gratefully.
DD graduated from High School on 14 June 2013. She is starting college on 3 September 2013. She is a very smart and beautiful young lady (inside and out!) and will go far. Very proud of her.
We learned sadly that Mom has Alzheimer's Disease in January 2013. Quite a blow. But taking it day-by-day.
I have now been OFF diabetic meds since March 29th and blood sugars stable! B/P has been running steadily 100/60 or a little lower. WOO HOO! VERY happy with that.
I have really learned the value of taking care of my health with proper nutrition, exercise and keeping myself in check mentally and spiritually as well. It's the whole package that makes the difference!
2016: Again, major changes. Mom fell and broke her right hip in Feb. 2015. After a month in rehab, we brought her and Dad here to live. Has upended any semblance of routine, but taking it day-by-day, it's working.
DS is still happily in Alaska. Not liking the weather there right now (winter), but that's part of the package.
March, 2016: DH accepted a new position that suits his talents well. It is a 1.5 hr. commute from here, but most of the time he can take the train. Otherwise, even commuting by car, it's not a bad drive. He's made the trip many times with another employer.
March, 2018: well, 2017 was a blur! Mom and Dad had health emergencies on 01 Jan. 2017. Ended up in the hospital, then to a nursing facility. Dad passed away on 12 August 2017, Mom on 02 November 2017.
We also lost our precious Mr. Spot on 21 August 2017. My brother lost his MIL on 24 August.
Truly not a good year, but still standing. Falters along the way, but still standing.
Looking to make this a year of taking care of ME.

Waiting to hear from the doctor about hubby's rash. Sunny and in the 40s here. Less snow last night.
