My main obstacle is junk food and finally realize I can NOT out exercise my love for it. Instead, I must learn to overcome this unhealthy habit in a sustainable and healthy way. I don't want obese related problems or become a burden to loved ones. I do want to live in a healthy body, enjoy a fulfilling life and remain prescription drug free.

Restart 3/2020
2020 GOAL: Avoid processed junk food, oils, refined sugars and lose 35 lbs.

I avoided bakery goodies (cakes, pies, cookies, donuts, pastries, etc.), chips and added sugars except for honey (occasionally w/tea), throughout the year. I don't cook w/oil but ate a few greasy take-outs, packaged cookies, frozen desserts, sugary cereals, candy, frozen pizzas and french bread the first half of the year. The last half of the year I managed to avoid those foods by coming up with better options. Lost 38 lbs

Instead of lumping all processed food together and trying to avoid them all at once, I divided them into two groups.
1. Processed JUNK Food (bakery goodies, chips, candy, non dairy frozen desserts, sugary cereals, including frozen pizza, and greasy take outs), to avoid.
2. Processed Food (whole grain pasta/bread, shredded wheat cereal, tofu, dried fruit and nuts), allowed in reasonable amounts.

I eat fruit, assorted vegs, beans, lentils, rice, oatmeal, starchy veggies and some processed food. I make oil free veggie pizza (albeit w/white flour), vegan sushi, oil free vegan pancakes, oil free/refined sugar free vegan carrot cake and non dairy frozen 'ice cream' with fruit; just to name a few. I eat till I'm satiated and don't restrict calories. Because of better food choices, I'm eating a lot more food, more nutrients and less calories.

2021 GOAL: Continue what I'm doing, lose 36 lbs and achieve a healthy BMI

-35 lbs total ----- BMI 32.1 by end of 2020 ........ -38 lbs total --- BMI 31.5 (12/2020)
-47 lbs total ----- BMI 29.9 by end of 3/2021
-60 lbs total ----- BMI 27.5 by end of 7/2021
-74 lbs total ----- BMI 24.9 by end of 2021

My Program:
Plant based (whole foods, some processed)
No caloric restrictions
Daily exercise
Deep breathing/stretching sessions
Adequate sleep
Stay hydrated

Personal Information:
Married w/adult children, grand and great grandchildren

    It's Friday once again! While recently shopping to renew my medical insurance just before the holidays, I had this thought . . . Insurance and hospital gowns have a lot in common; you're not really covered as much as you think you are.

    Also, I recently heard there's a new kind of flu going around. It's called the Amish Flu. First you get a little hoarse, and then you get a little buggy.

    My neighbor who's a nurse told me that the other day, she went into a patient's room to check his vitals, and saw an apple on the bedstand. As she was taking his pulse she remarked, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away." He replied, "You know, you're right. I haven't seen a doctor in three days!"

    When I stepped on the scale at the doctor's office, I was surprised to see I gained a few pound, and weighed 144 pounds.
    Offhandedly I turned to the nurses aide as she was ready to enter it into my chart, winked, and said, "Why don't you just take off that last four?"
    Several minutes later my doctor came in, flipped open my chart and said, "I see you've lost weight. You're down to 14 pounds!"

    Another neighbor's son is in medical school and needed to decide on his medical specialty.
    Even though he had excelled in all his anatomy, biology, and physiology courses he had
    decided he didn't like surgery. His advisor simply replied "Suture self."
