"I am now 54 and am feeling so much better than I did this time last year. It is amazing how, even as an older person, daily exercise and eating healthy foods (most of the time) can keep you feeling more energetic and less pain.

My History Here:

I first joined Sparkpeople in the Summer of 2010. I still have the Class of Team on my profile to remind me. These days I'm taking a different approach to SP. It seems to be working as I have no intention of giving up and quitting.

Instead I have the intention of changing the way I've been living my life for the better. I can either do that or continue to struggle to walk and be in constant pain for the rest of my life.

Waking up each morning I spend a few minutes thinking about what I will accomplish that day. Then I set about to seeing how much I can achieve.

My Goals:
My long term goal is to shed the 70 unwanted pounds I have accumulated. My ultimate goal is to take an after picture. I have umpteen before pictures I've taken over the years, never to have an after.

My Program:
My plan for this month is to complete Callanetics workouots at least 3 x per week. I also have a lot of running to do as part of a challenge for the Astros team. I previously completed the 18 week transformation from that book. My eating plan involves the Sparkpeople cookbook and Eating for Life and includes planning meals a week in advance and sticking to the plan. That's the plan, its the "sticking to it" part that hasn't been much of a success. My fitness plan involves the Bill Phillip's 5-25 upper and lower body workouts for the strength part, the Essentrics "Forever Pain free" and "Weight Loss" workouts for the flexibility part and Leslie Sansone walk workouts and Bowflex Max trainer for cardio as well as any other activity I can work in like walking my dog and I do military push ups every morning while I'm waiting for coffee to brew. That keeps me strong enough to walk my dog Bella.

Personal Information:
I've struggled and tried to get back in shape for many years. I had real success about 6-7 years ago with the Bill Phillip's program which is why I keep coming back to it. My struggles come from just giving up one day for no clear reason. I need to take a good an honest look at why I will give up even when I'm having success. I can see if I go 2-3 weeks where the scale won't budge! I have a lot of work to do and need all the support I can get. Thanks.

Other Information:
Before I wanted to get in shape to look good and well, now I'm older and sure I want to look better and have my clothes fit better an wear smaller sizes but these days my priority is managing my pain. I have arthritics in my lower back and both hips. There is never a day when I don't have some pain somewhere. Then when my sciatica nerve kicks in (which is every evening when I am trying to cook dinner) I get the pain trifecta. I've read articles and info on how to get rid of the pain and they all say "drop those extra pounds" UUUUHHHHHH!!!! Gee I didn't realize! since it is so easy to do, I'll get right on that! Anyway, one thing I have learned is laying around and resting because of pain is not the answer but is instead the problem. I'm really hoping to find true success here.
