Introduction Text It's been quite a while since I've been here. I moved over to MyFitnessPal because I had become a Beachbody coach and it was more friendly over there when it came to selling products and recruiting. However, I'm no longer an active coach because Beachbody has moved to a streaming service which doesn't work well when you live in the middle of nowhere with NO DSL. Another reason I came back is that I'm hoping that returning to my roots will be the change that helps me lose the 20 lbs I have gained in the last year or so. I managed to halt the gain, now I just have to work to get back down to my happy weight. You don't love running when you first start because it hurts. Your legs hurt, your lungs hurt. But once you make the decision and start to move forward, you become a different person. It's not about having to hit your goal weight to start feeling good again. I really hated it at first because it was so hard but I wanted to learn to run so I could burn more calories in less time. Running really does change you. I can honestly say that being able to finish a run strongly is more important than the number on that scale. I've been working hard during the 6 months or so to make peace with food, my body, and my perceptions of myself. It's a lot harder than I imagined it ever could be. Though I still have days when I'm not very kind to myself, they are fewer and farther between. I thank God for that because I surely am not achieving that peace on my own. I have come so far since June 30, 2007 when I realized that I was slowly destroying my life and really wasn't able to take care of my family the way I wanted. Truly, none of what I have accomplished is due solely to my own efforts. I have received strength, forgiveness for mistreating myself and peace from the Lord, support and encouragement from my husband and family as well as from many Spark Friends over the last 4 years. My sincerest thanks to each and every one of you. UPDATE: I did decide to go into maintenance after a lot of introspection and prayer. I'm feeling good about the decision and now I'm working to rebuild my running base after my recovery from the shingles. I was advised to take it easy with my running because I was experiencing nerve pain flare ups but only when I would run. It took about 3 1/2 months for it to stop but I'm back on the road now!! I like walking but I just don't get the same high as a run...now to get my mileage back up. I continually thank the Lord for all my friends and your wonderful and generous support! Be blessed!!!!! I've revised my goal weight upward just a tad. It had been recommended that I shoot for 125 but I haven't made any progress in the last year. In fact, I gained weight over the winter and am back up to a BMI that places me officially in the "overweight" category. I'm not happy about that because it's not a place I ever thought I'd find myself again. I'll be honest. Emotional eating and depression put me back there. It just goes to show that it's easier to slip back into old habits than you could ever imagine. I will never give up, though. I want to be healthy. I'm in a pretty good place physically. My blood pressure, blood sugar and cardiovascular health are great; but mentally and emotionally I still have work to do. I know, though, that with the support of Spark People, my wonderful Spark Friends and my Lord and Savior that I can do it!!! *********************** After consulting with a registered dietitian friend, I have decided to shoot for a maintenance goal of 125-130 pounds. This is based upon my frame size and height and takes into consideration the strength training that I do. She told me that if I wasn't into weights she would recommend 115-120?!? So, I have some work to do...physically and emotionally because I have found myself unexpectedly reverting to an old bad habit that you can read about in my blog from today (5/28/2010). Anyway, I shall continue my journey along the healthy lifestyle road...and hope to see you along my way. ********************************** Things are way different for me than they were when I started with Spark People. Not only have I lost weight, I've moved, gone back to work, reclaimed a long neglected yard, started a new garden and begun learning to garden in the shade. I've backed off a bit from a couple of my hobbies and become interested in a couple of new things. I've started to get more serious with my strength training and I've decided that I really do love to run. I remember loving to run when I was a kid then I injured my knee when I was twelve and I never ran again unless I absolutely had to do so. In fact, when I was in high school I was told that I probably shouldn't run. However, when I got really serious about my fitness levels in late 2007 I decided that I would give running another try. I worked on strengthening my quads and started adding a little jogging to my walks. It was really tough at first. I couldn't run more than about 30 yards or so before I had to drop to a walk to catch my breath but I kept at it until I could run 2 miles non-stop. That was the day that I really felt that I could say "I'm a runner." I find it amusing, though, because I never set out to be a runner. I just wanted to get in my best possible condition and with limited resources walking, then running, were the best options for me to pursue. Anyway, I posted this little story to tell y'all that you probably can run even if you were never successful before--check out Running for Mortals. It's a great book and I really wish I had found it a year ago. I may have learned to love running that much sooner because it did take time for me to love it. My reward system: 170 = new book - purchased a guide to Louisiana wildflowers 160 = a couple of new spring outfits (got them and now they're too big!!) 150 = paint my kitchen (not done because I can't decide on a color) 140 = new look for my bedroom 130 (goal) = new wardrobe

I want to be healthy and fit. I want to serve God with all my heart and have fun doing it. I have four kids ranging in age from 26 to 7 and I want to live a long life and be there for all my kids. Complete! 5/23/10. Fitness Goal 8: Complete P90X Classic. * See not below. Fitness Goal 9: Run a 5K race! Complete! 4/30/11. Time 33:50.1 Fitness Goal 10: Run a half-marathon.

Cardio: Running, walking, hiking, etc. I'm an outdoor exercising girl...even in this Louisiana heat. Strength: I use a combination of body weight/dynamic tension exercises and weight training. I like to challenge myself and lift fairly heavy. I'm working around a chronic problem with one shoulder. I have limited range of motion and have to get creative to work out effectively. A note on P90X: I really enjoyed the intense, long workouts (crazy, I know) but at this point in time it doesn't fit my life and schedule. Now with my shoulder injury, I don't know that I'll ever get back to it.

My name is Rebecca. I live in Central Louisiana in the country where we raise chickens and children. We used to have rabbits and Nubian goats. I miss my goats very much, though I don't miss the rabbits. They were much more my husband's interest. I love to read and sew although I'm not terribly good at sewing. I have studied herbology and used to make goat's milk soap as a part time business. We have been homeschooling our children since 1996 and I love it. I have such a wonderful opportunity to get to know and play with my kids.

I love to sing and am a member of the Piney Hills Harmony Chorus, a chapter of Sweet Adelines, International that is located in Region 25. I like to read science fiction and fantasy literature. I also read a lot of history and archaeological material because of my interest in history and culture. I also love to cook from scratch and there's not much that is more satisfying to me than taking a fresh baked loaf of bread out of the oven.
