This journey begins with one step, followed by a lifetime of steps, for this must truly be a lifestyle change for me. Not just for now and a year from now but for the remainder of my days.

Settling into middle age and realizing I'm heavier than I've ever been in my life does not bode well with me. I am looking at a career change and have decided that this is the perfect time to change a few other things as well, starting with my weight.

It's time to start talking about the elephant in the room. Me. Weight has always been an issue with me but I was okay with it to a certain degree because I'd always felt good about myself and remained fairly active.

Usher in two lay-offs in three years, becoming a full time caregiver to an aging parent and her subsequent death. The active me suddenly became very inactive. Add lots of comfort food to soothe the depression that ensued and with it 50 additional pounds to my already burdened frame.

I've set my goal weight at 150 lbs. Although that is a little on the heavy side, I still look thin at 150, think it a very achievable goal and one that can be maintained long term.

As the thin me struggles to break free from this obese exterior it currently resides in, I will need much prayer and encouragement to succeed.

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO, What a Ride!!"-unknown
