I carried an extra 25 lbs for 25 years. In the era of the "Biggest Loser" that may not seem like a big deal. I had always been told by family and friends that I could "carry it." The photo of me finishing a half marathon back in 2006 attests to that. Finally, on Jan 1, 2009 I decided that I just didn't want to "carry it" anymore, not for 13.1 miles, not up and down stairs, nowhere.

Because I was already really active and fit and water was my beverage of choice, the "easy" advice of "move more and drink water" did not apply to me.

Now, that I've reached 9 years of maintenance, I never want to go back! Gradualism was my plan and now maintenance is my goal.

The 5% in my title refers to the percentage of people who successfully maintain their weight loss after a certain number of years. The number of years varies with each study (3, 4, 5 or more). That's why, even after all these years, I continue to log in to Sparkpeople every morning.

This program is responsible for my success and I intend to stay right here. Besides, there are always new things to learn, new ideas to keep things fresh and new people to meet.

Glad you asked. To water jog you wear an aqua belt and stay in the deep end. You try to stay verticle. I was just sent an article that says you should do 175 strides per minute and really work hard (perceived exertion.) I think that was it. I'll try to forward you that article.

Thanks for sharing that about your mom and running. Is she accepting it now?
My mom is 92 so I can easily forgive her crazy comment. She is trying to accept the new me and doing pretty well.

Thanks for the prize! You just uncovered one of my hidden talents: I love to parody jingles, slogans, songs, and rhymes. Green Eggs and Ham was a natural!

Thanks so much for the goodie and the compliments! You warm my heart! I've added you as a friend too. I took many years for us to become friends. For a long long time it was ugly. But time changes things. I would never marry or live with him again, and not romantically involved with him. Just friends and I help him out a lot and he helps me sometimes too. I'm glad that the bitterness and anger is gone. It was a long hard road to get to that point, but the negative feelings just drag me down. He treats me with more respect than he ever did when we were married (been divorced since 1989) and as long as he does that I will be there to help him. We've both changed some over the years.
I bet your lake in VA is beautiful!

Thanks for your comments. I can't even imagine a 1/16 mile track - I thought the 1/8 was a little small! At least it gives an alternative when the weather is bad.
