I found this web site by accident back in January, 2008. Then with the hectic schedule of school and family, I really didn't do much with the site or with my weight loss efforts for several months.

Now it is summer vacation and I am hoping that I can dedicate a little more time to me and meeting my goals. I need to lose 100-150 pounds for health reasons. I have Lupus, Mixed Connective Tissue Disease, High Blood Pressure, etc. I am desperate for success but the task seems unsurmountable so I am just taking it one day at a time.

There are Pi symbols all over my page because I am a middle school math teacher and my other big goal for the summer is to pass the Middle School Math Praxis!

My reward system - I've been thinking about this for weeks. Anyone who knows me well knows its going to take a lot to get me to give up my Pepsi and Chocolate. My family knows better than to take the last Pepsi or Mountain Dew out of the fridge - it could be dangerous. So my rewards have to be something I really want! So here is the plan.

Every 10 Pounds = A small house treat of my choice (picture frames, candles, lamps, etc.)

50 Pounds = A weekend away from home just me and the hubby. No kids, no kitten and no puppy! I'm thinking cabin with hot tub:)

100 Pounds = A dinning room set!

150 Pounds = A mini kitchen remodel - new flooring, counter tops, etc.!

Six Months at 150 Pounds = Disney World here we come again!

7/9/2008 - Update -
I haven't made much progress so far as actual weight loss. However, any good teacher knows that to have a successful lesson, you have to take the needed time to plan and prepare. I have learned much in the last month about this site, about using the nutrition tracker and about myself as well. I've learned that I need to spend time in prayer and ask God to help me with this journey. I've found that there are many wonderful friends here and that it is okay to ask them for help. So a small goal for myself - when I go back to work for the new school year on August 11th I want to be out of the 290's and I want to be able to walk across our campus with my students without having to stop to rest!

Update: 7/11/2008 -

I passed the Middle School Math Praxis! The requirement in the state of North Carolina is a 141. I made a 171! So this fall I will be teaching two 8th grade math classes, one 7th grade math class, and one 8th grade social studies class.

If only my weight loss goals were going as well. Time to refocus my efforts on my primary goals: drink water not sodas, walk, and track my food intake!

Fitness Minutes: 40

My Goals:
1) I am addicted to Pepsi and Mt. Dew. My students will even say Ms. M you need to take a Mt. Dew break. My 1st goal is to learn to drink diet drinks, water, and fruit juices.

2) I'm also really bad about keeping track of things from my checking account, to appointments, to what I'm eating. So my second goal is to really use the nutrition tracker to keep up with what I'm eating.

3) My third goal is to get moving. My low energy level and aching joints from Lupus and from the weight I've gained make this really tough. However, I teach on a beautiful campus here in the mountains and each classroom, office, etc. is in its own little cabin. So, in the fall I want to be able to walk across campus with my students without feeling like I'm going to collapse. Therefore, this summer I'm setting small walking goals for myself to build up to meeting the challenge this fall.

My Program:
1) Since I'm a bit of a computer geek. I'm hoping this web site will help me to stay motivated with an efficient way to keep up with what I'm eating and help me find lots of positive support for meeting my goals.

2) My husband is helping me clear the house of all sweets especially soft drinks. He is also a dietitian and does most of the cooking in our home. So the plan is let him lead the way instead of me hitting McDonald's on a regular basis - saves calories and money.

3) Follow Mrs. HoneyC's lead and drink lots and lots of water!

4) Walk! Walk! Walk! Starting out slow and small and building from there!

Personal Information:
I'm a born and breed North Carolina Mountain's girl.
I am forty something, married with three children: girls 14 and 10 and a 5 year old son.
I teach middle school math and history at a local charter school.
I suffer from a number of health issues including Lupus, Sjoygren's Syndrome, High Blood Pressure, and Mixed Connective Tissue Disease.
I am a Christian and my family is active in our local church and community.
I love to play the piano and enjoy being part of a family that loves music. My husband has a beautiful singing voice and he plays trombone. Our oldest daughter is a future music education major. She plays piano, clarinet, flute, dulcimer, and is probably taking up sax this fall.
Our younger daughter is the strings member in the family - playing violin and she inherited her father's singing talent.
Mama's Little Man loves to make everthing in the house a drum to play on.

I also love lots of crafts although I don't find much time to do them anymore. However, I have an every growing collection of craft projects and books that I'm going to do some day!
