I've had more false healthy-living starts over the years than I can count, including daily resolutions I made for two months before I joined SparkPeople. I successfully lost 20 pounds about eight years ago (have since gained it back) and loved the way I felt in the midst of it--strong, healthy, confident, and happy. I've decided to create a "culture of wellness" for myself like I did back then, and thought that this community was exactly what I was looking for. I also feel like I'm running out of time to focus on myself before I have children and would like to conquer my unhealthy habits before passing them along. I love exercising; it's keeping my eating in check that's my problem, since I love food! I'm excited to soak up the motivational, supportive atmosphere here.

I started SparkPeople on May 30, 2010. After a few stops and restarts, I began again in earnest in January 2011 and lost 10 lbs by May 13. I have learned so much along the way about myself and the way I deal with stress--and learned my main weight-loss obstacle is that I'm a people-pleaser who always puts myself last. This has been tremendously helpful as I work to improve all aspects of my life, not just weight--I've learned that the word "no" exists and how to use it, and also how to schedule time for myself to decompress before burning myself out agreeing to everything I'm asked to do.

I STILL want to overcome my bingeing, cut back on my alcohol, and pack my time with things I'm excited about doing. This improved attitude HAS shown up on the scale--I just need to learn how to weave this into my lifestyle seamlessly to make it a permanent change. I know I can't always put myself first, but I also need to learn about how to cope in a healthy way when I can't (instead of stuffing my face with food, which also doesn't help the feelings to go away, it turns out!)

My Goals:
To change my eating habits and minimize emotional eating. I'd like to see evidence that I've done this in the form of getting down below 130 lbs and maintaining it for a significant period of time.

My Program:
I'm trying to put myself first and keep myself happy, with the theory that happy with myself will equal better treatment of my body.

Personal Information:
Lifelong Massachusetts resident. I love to travel; my dream is to take a road trip across the United States and experience amazing diners and parks from coast to coast.
