Hi & welcome to the Diabetes Complications team! So glad you found us and I look forward to chatting with you on the team. I know walking is difficult for you right now, so may not be the best exercise option for you at this time.... There is a thread in the Genral Topic Forum on our team with some alternative exercises for people with limited mobility. The best I have found are the Chair Aerobics For Everyone DVDs.... They have several different versions and they can all be done either from a seated position or with limited foot/leg movement. I've found them very helpful as my broken leg heals! We have a Daily Question Thread that helps us get to know each other better, several ongoing games, a General ChitChat Thread and a place to voice aggrivations & complaints! I'm here if you need me! So, come on over and make yourself at home!

Hi and welcome to Spark People and our Managing Diabetes Team where you will find lots of information and loads of support. Just post any questions, comments or suggestions you may have and someone will respond quickly.
Spark People is not another diet; it is a positive lifestyle change...
Stay focused and keep a positive attitude as this will be a great help to you in your daily life!!! Smile although sometimes that is the hardest, but it really helps!!! And, if nothing else, it makes people wonder what you're up to.
Watch your portion control. Be sure to drink plenty of water (8-8oz glasses daily) and walk. Water and walking will help you on this journey of lowering numbers and weight loss. Start small if that is all you can do or have time to do and add to it as you are able. Even 5-10 minutes several times a day adds up to bigger numbers and will keep you moving. Invest in a good pedometer (I love my Omron which I just drop in my pocket or purse and it is still accurate. Works better for me than the ones that go on the waistband. I think I have too much belly fat for them to be work right.) and see how many steps you currently take each day. Before long you will be adding steps just to see how many you can do and how far you can go. WHAT A GREAT MOTIVATOR!!! YOU can do this!!!
I have been able to lower my numbesr immensely since joining Spark People...my triglycerides and cholesterol numbers are much better and no longer over the top and my A1C is down to 5.3. If I can do you, you certainly can to!!! This goal is attainable for you.
It's good to meet and have you with us.
Take each day as it comes and enjoy it to the fullest!!!
God bless you in your new adventures.
    Hugs,
    Helen
