3-1-2012 Just an Update

I've managed to lose 100lbs so far and would like to lose another 20 but won't be heartbroken if that doesn't happen. I'm okay with where I'm at. I much fitter than when I began and have become a personal trainer (of all things - LOL). I'm muscular and 'regular' sized for the first time in my adult life. I don't buy my clothes in the plus sized department anymore and I'm confident that I can fit on any ride in the amusement parks - not that I'd want to! I'm a big chicken.

The main thing that I've noticed is that I'm not invisible anymore. People see me. It's hard to explain that to someone who has never been obese but we become overlooked which is so ironic considering we take up so much space. People make eye contact now and speak directly to me and, as vain as this may sound, men look at me. I hate to admit it but I like it, plus my husband is more attentive because of it, though I'd never get him to admit it - LOL

Things are good, life is good, and I expect it to keep getting better!

Last year, after losing 30 pounds, I decided to switch to maintenance mode. I wanted to take a little break before working to lose more. That was all well and good until I stopped tracking my food in my log.

Slowly but surely I gained 15 of the 30 back and ended 2007 at a 15lb loss.

The good news is that I am back! I'm motivated and focussed and ready to do this and I hope to end 2008 30lbs lighter than I started it.

9-3-09 wow, I haven't updated this thing in awhile. Lost that 15lbs and have been maintaining at 225 since I last updated. Then in Nov 08 we moved to Indiana where I knew absolutely no one so I started going to the gym for entertainment. Not dieting, not tracking, just working out. Then in February my youngest son joined the gym and had to go through an orientation of the weight machines because of his age. I followed him through it and was hooked!

So since Feb 09 I've been lifting weights as my primary source of exercise. In March I got brave enough to hire a personal trainer and learned a lot of good things. Was still hovering at 225 but to me that was great because I was lifting and not gaining - toning up but not bulking up. Then in May my trainer introduced me to High Intensity Interval Training - Hooked again! And she tried to get me to start eating 40/40/20. I played around with the eating a bit but didn't take it seriously but was still seeing wonderful gains in strength and no gains in weight.

Then in August I decided to get my butt back on here and start tracking to see if I could shed some of this fat so my new muscles could shine:) Got down to 223/222 and then decided to take the plunge and eat 40/40/20 (40% calories from carbs, 40% proteins, 20% fat - also known as a cutting diet). I am going on my third week of it and I have lost 8lbs so far.

Gonna stick with my routine of lifting every other day, followed by either HIIT or 30 minutes steady state, and eating 40/40/20 until it stops working. As the old saying goes, "If it ain't broken, don't fix it."

I'll let you know how it works out!:)

Thank you for your comments and advice on the message boards. You are right about taking baby steps. I've gotten in several bad habits that I need to change. Coming home from work and grabbing a beer or sugary soda needs to stop. Maybe I'll start with a non-alcohol beer, juice, tea - anything different from my normal routine.
