I was a chubby girl my entire life. As an infant my Mom would add butter to my baby food (that's right, before I could even chew). Me and my chubby little brother broke a double stroller together. I remained that way throughout elementary and middle school, as well as part of high school. I just thought that it was my genetics because my whole family was that way. Turns out I was simply uneducated in the ways of proper nutrition and was not offered healthy choices.

In high school I got pregnant and very, very hungry. I gained at least 60 lbs. When I looked at the scale and saw 210 staring back at me I wanted to cry. I had a tremendously difficult time getting that weight off. It took years, but I finally succeeded in 2008 when I took up running, food journaling and label reading, and then later was able to do the P90X program. Prior to 2008 I was taking baby steps (which I'm a huge fan of) and replacing bad food items with good ones a little at a time as well as walking a lot.

Well, I ended up getting very lazy and gained back what I had lost. Making healthier choices is good, but going from eating what you want on the menu to choosing smaller portions or somewhat healthier choices isn't really a lifestyle change, and I attribute that to gaining it all back. The same foods were sitting in front of me and when I got lazy I started eating bigger portions of them again. It's a step in the right direction, don't get me wrong, but I failed to continue taking those very important steps. I fell down.

Once again, I've lost it all on my own with regular exercise and food journaling, and have decided that I'm not a yo-yo. I do not want to go back and forth anymore. I've recently joined Spark People and have completely re-vamped my diet. I now stick with fruits, veggies, whole grains and nuts. Occasionally I'll have meat, but it's a rare treat just like chocolate. When I can afford to buy one, I would love to get a juicer and give juicing a try. I had reached the same plateau that I did the first time I took it all off and I attribute breaking that plateau to joining Spark People (such a wonderful community) and to Tosca Reno, who is an inspiration to me. I love her Eat Clean Diet-Stripped book. This time around I have been able to make it to my ultimate goal weight of 135 pounds. I intend to continue to use SP to learn how to maintain my loss and stay within a weight range of 133-137. I know it's unrealistic to think I'll stay right at 135 all the time.

I have also expanded my workout options so that I'll never become bored with exercising again. I'm currently in week ten of twelve of P90X (3/28/12) and once I've completed that I plan to take a week of rest (which will include yoga, running, dancing, walking and any other lighter workout I can find) and after that week I'll see how I feel about beginning the P90X2 program. If I'm still feeling like I need a break from Tony Horton, I'll try the ZWOW/ZWOD workouts with Zuzana from BodyRock on YouTube. I love Zuzana and would like to thank Adriana for telling me about the ZWOW workouts! It's too bad Zuzana is not part of BodyRock any longer, she really does make you want to work hard. Aside from P90, I enjoy yoga, running, the Brazil Butt Lift videos, hiking, walking, MMA with my boyfriend, hula hooping and step aerobics. I also hope to give Zumba and rock climbing a try, as well as talk my sister into going swimming with me more this Summer.
