Hi, my name is Sandy. I am trying to change my become healthier and fitter. Although I joined Sparkpeople in August 2010, at my youngest daughter's suggestion, I looked at it a bit, but didn't commit to really do anything.

While on holidays in Greece, there seemed to be more time to investigate the site and here I am.

This is a journey and I have had my ups and downs since returning from holidays - ingrown toenail had to be cut out and I have had lots of pain in my back - bulging discs - but after a spinal epidural in August 2011, virtually pain free - YAY - hopefully no surgery.

I love the support we all give to each other on Sparkpeople and the Spark teams.

I am going to be more focused on tracking both food and exercise .... tracking is the hardest thing I find to do ... I don't like admitting it, but here I am ... I have.

16 February 2012 - for the last few days - I have been following the WW Filling and Healthy food list. Eating lots of vegies, fruit, having protein, low fat dairy. This seems to be working for me. I am dedicated to SparkPeople and the support. I joined WW online and found the F & H which seems to be suiting me. I find tracking very difficult, particularly using the tracker and the difference in the food names between Australia and the USA.

I took a voluntary redundancy from work, so I am officially retired.

May 2012
I have committed to tracking and exercise and staying on track.

Wow. Where have the years gone?

I have had another 2 surgeries and a hip replacement. My weight has not gone down!! The doc wants me to lose 5 kgs by Christmas. Don't know what I weigh at the moment. Been gone from home for 11 days. I have been diagnosed as pre-diabetic. I need to change!!!!

Try to get off blood pressure tablets, cholestoral tablets, and anti-depressants.

Goal: 5% - 96.9kg - 16 August 2012
Goal: 10% - 91.8kg

Goal - 90kg - will make me overweight not obese.

75 kg will put me in the high range of healthy weight.

Personal Information:
I am married, with 4 grown up children. I have 11 grandchildren.

I am retired.

Other Information:
When time permits, I love to garden, read, sew including patchwork.

We have a dog called Max who has been with us for over a year now and is the love of our lives (LOL) We took him from the dog rescue when he was about 2 and he is such a delight ... sadly our other dog and cat are no longer with us.

I play piano at our local church and part of the ministry support team.

    Hi there, I just saw your profile pic with the tiger on someone else's page. Oh my, that must have been a phenomenal experience! Was it at all scary? Not something I have thought about doing, myself. At least not yet. :) Would love to hear about your experience, if you wouldn't mind sharing. (Maybe you blogged about it, sorry didn't check on that possibility.)

    While seeing that pic, I also saw the one of your mom earlier this year. I did a double take b/c it looked very similar to my mom a few years ago. I am sorry that your mom is/was sick. It's a difficult time when roles reverse. Make sure you take care of yourself, too, ok? It's easy to run yourself down focusing on others. If you want/need someone who's been through it already, you only need to ask.
