First, a little clarification. My name is Dave. I use GreenGenes because I am a Michigan State Alumnus (Go Green!) and because of my research interests in genetics, particularly genetics of microbes.

SparkPeople has helped me reach my weight and fitness goals (unfortunately, multiple times). Just when I think I've learned from my mistakes I fall back into old habits and regain weight and my overall fitness deteriorates. I am back at making good progress again and trying to work at maintaining once I get there. I just need to keep it simple - keep tracking and keep moving.

My Goals:
Achieve and maintain my weight around 175 - 180 which would keep my BMI in the healthy range. However, focus on the non-scale victories - daily activity and keeping my resting heart rate low (around 60).
My Program:
Making healthy eating choices, limiting my snacking, and getting at least moderate exercise every day (minimum of 10K steps per day but average 15K+).
For eating, it is mainly about portion control but also awareness and control of my weaknesses (mainly mindless snacking and eating when I am stressed).
For fitness, I'm a firm believer in variety is the spice of life so I try to do different things - bike, run, walk, golf, elliptical, treadmill, stationary bike, jump rope, swim, racquetball, basketball, weight training, core exercises.
Personal Information:
I teach, therefore, I learn.

Happy Spotlight Day. It is your day to shine.
Good luck on your 61 lap run next week. I know you can do it, and remember when you retire to Germany, that you can still be a Challenge Warrior.
