I can't believe the progress I've made since I've joined SparkPeople. One reason I never tried to lose weight before was because I was afraid it wasn't possible! Now I know it IS possible and AMAZING.

But losing weight wasn't my only problem, as I've recently discovered. I need to work on losing my old LIFESTYLE. Out with the "only exercising once a week" lethargy. Out with the "eating and drinking till I bust" mentality.

And especially, OUT with the "I can slack off some weeks if I work really hard at it other weeks". Pretty soon those weeks will turn into months, years, and so on...

So here's to the rest of my life! It's gonna be a good one.


Here's what I wrote when I first joined in September, 2009. I want to keep it in order to remind myself where I came from:

The other day I was minding my own business at work, doing my normal day-to-day tasks, when something clicked. It was like a lightbulb went off in my brain and I knew that it was time to start making a concerted effort to lose weight.

I have been occasionally accepting, delusional, ambivalent, or disgusted by my current body. I'm 25 years old, and after steadily gaining weight over the past few years I've decided that I need to reverse that trend now. No more putting it off, no more pretending that it'll be easier later, no more excuses. I used to think "I'll get there someday, in my own good time". Well, it's been time to do something about it for a while now, and I'm finally ready.

It certainly took me long enough!!!

My Goals:
I want to get into a "Normal" BMI Range and a Healthy Body Fat Percentage.

I would also like to have more energy, endurance, and overall motivation to be active, and a better self-image along with all of those.

I want to drink less. I have a lot of difficulties ahead of me, and drinking is not going to make them any easier.

My Program:
I'm working on developing good habits: exercise, portion control, and ignoring the unhealthy impulses. I want exercise to no longer be a chore. I want portion control to not feel like starvation. I want my healthy choices to be the norm, not the rarity.

Personal Information:
I will be taking the MCAT on March 24th, so I've got a lot of studying to do until then. Wish me luck!

    Hello and welcome to spark and SEM group. I wanted to drop by and say hello.

    You mentions that you sew your own clothes and costumes, that's awesome. My husband and I make costumes (usually out of chicken wire and paper mache) but also do some sewing when called for. It is a lot of fun and a great skill to have.
