My journey began at 200 lbs with a goal to lose a total of 70 lbs.

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Initially I lost about 40 lbs. In Jan 2017, I injured my shoulder and foot in an accident leading to steroid injections, surgery and physical therapy. Recovery was slow; I regained a lot of weight and developed other health issues that further impacted my progress. In 2018, a check-up revealed that my BP and cholesterol were also dangerously high.

Determined not to live on meds, I decided to focus on lifestyle and dietary changes. Join me on my journey to health!

Slow down. Savoring your food in a calm environment helps you tune in to your body's signals. You're less likely to overeat and experience problems like acid reflux when you take time to really enjoy your meals.

Yes, the foam rollers are quite amazing. I have two - one is longer and softer and it doesn't work as well. The one we use in class is called a Trigger Point Foam Roller. On the outside it looks like tire tread and it's smaller and harder. I bought one for myself a couple years ago but didn't use it because it hurt. Little did I know at the time that it's suppose to hurt. Apparently, our bodies collect fluids in various places that kind of harden (I don't really understand it so I'm not explaining it well). The teacher calls them "speed bumps" and when you roll the roller over those areas it disburses the fluids. It's painful while you are doing it but it takes away the overall pain.

A perfect example - I have always had a lot of pain on the outside of my right leg from my hip to my knee. It's gotten worse since I got my new right knee. I assume I am not exactly balanced. This fall we were traveling and it was so bad that every time we stopped I had to carefully get out of the car and then wait until I felt I could put weight on that leg. Later in the fall I started going to the Foam Roller class and after maybe 2 - 3 30 minute classes the pain was totally gone! It comes back if I go too long. I now have my Trigger Point Roller in the living room and use it in the evenings while I'm watching TV.

So, a long story but I am convinced that they are so helpful. Darcy, the trainer, also has us use balls (like tennis balls) that we roll down our legs or put kind of under the shoulder blade on your back. You lay on it and move that arm overhead and around - that small movement has taken away the numbness I had been experiencing in my arm. It's amazing what the body can do if given a chance!!!
