Hello, my name is Harry.

Please, feel free to friend me, follow me, or email me. I will reply to any and everyone. I'm just like you, here to improve my health and fitness. I'm not perfect but I try real hard to make daily improvements in myself. I'm the kind of person who sees the glass as half full.

I'm 65 years old, survived a major heart attack, rattle snake bite, and countless other accidents.

I use a Polar Vantage M Heart Rate Monitor, Polar H10 chest strap, and the Android "Polar Flow" App to keep track of my heart rate during my workouts. I count my food calories using SPARKPeople.

I have discovered that my journey is not about weight loss.
My journey is about fat loss.

I am LOSING FAT with a modified Paleo diet, meaning NO ADDED SUGAR.

NO ADDED SUGAR means no NO ADDED SUGAR. No juices, no sodas, no sweeteners, and avoiding all foods in the center isles at the food stores. It means avoiding all processed foods. It means eating healthy fats, nuts, fruits, and veggies.

I exercise to build strength. As I grow stronger, I am adding muscle that adds weight.
Adding muscle is a good thing that helps to burn fat. As I become more fit, fat is replaced with muscle.

Therefore the real enemy is fat, NOT WEIGHT.

I love to draw cartoons, hang glide, hike, bike, motorcycle, and bird watch.

My Goals:
43% to 52% Waist to Height Ratio (WHtR)

My Program:

Avoid added sugar.
Avoid corn syrup.
Avoid high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS)
Avoid artifical sweeteners.

Eat a Paleo based Diet.
Drink only water or whole milk.
Gentle exercise.

I can buy pleasure, but not happiness.
Pleasure does not bring happiness.
Sugar is pleasure and results in pain.

I have found happiness by breaking my sugar addiction.

    I had a heart attack too (2/13) and take a beta blocker. I worked out at the cardiac rehab center for quite a while - just moved to local gym with more options. the trainers at rehab wanted me to keep my HR below 133 (I'm almost 67) which I do wearing a HRM.

    I also wear a Nike Fuel band all day and find that the cals burned there at the end of the day are usually different than what shows on the HRM. Bottom line, IMO this is all sort of a guesstimate. I track everything as honestly as I can and deduct most of the cals burned. What I look at is does my weight stay the same as I'm in maintenance? If I am the cals in v cals out is working. If I start to gain or lose, then something is off.
