MY ABC'S TO A PEACEFUL LIFE (COPYRIGHTS BELONG TO ME)
A- Admitting: Admitting my wrongs to others is only ONE part of fixing a problem. It requires me to act on changing my behavior going forward.
B- Boundaries: Boundaries do not shut people out, but rather protect what gets in. Setting boundaries allows me to state my preferences without feeling guilty.
C- Choices: I always have choices. Poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part. I can say yes, no, or let me think about it.
D- Do: When I do for others what they can and should do for themselves, I take away their power to change.
E- Expectations: Putting expectations on others will empty today of it's strength. I cannot live my life putting expectations on others to bring me happiness.
F- Freedom: I realize that making things right with others brings freedom from emotional and mental bondage.
G- Gift: Life is a gift. I realize that what I am is God's gift to me. What I become is my gift to God.
H- Humility: I realize that recovery depends on humility before God.
I- Impossible: I know that without faith, it is impossible to please God. 'I' cannot do the impossible.
J- Just: Just one day at a time I can rely on God for all my needs, which will bring me contentment.
K- Keep: Keep my eyes on my own plate. If I feel I have too much to handle, I am probably trying to handle someone else's stuff.
L- Love: I cannot love someone more than they love themselves. I should also remember to love myself "as" (much as) I love others.
M- Myself: My responsibility is to improve myself physically, emotionally, and spiritually with God's help.
N- Never: I am never alone. I have God and others.
O- Owe: Changing my wrong thinking and actions is a debt that I owe to myself, to God, and others.
P- Prepare: Living daily without involving myself in other people's drama, better prepares me for any impending crisis that might be just around the corner.
Q- Quiet: Even when my life is quiet, I will not necessarily be living with serenity. I need to continue to work on myself.
R- Recovery: I must do 'whatever' it takes to get and stay in recovery. I cannot allow the bad behaviors of others to keep me in emotional bondage.
S- Serenity: Serenity is asking God to help me accept things beyond my control.
T- Thinking: It is important to invite others into my thinking. It was my best thinking that got me to where I am today.
U- Unconditional: My unconditional love for another does not negate the importance of detaching from unhealthy situations.
V- Value: I know that if I add value to another person, I will lessen my resentment. Resentments are shackles. Resentment sabotages my happiness.
W- Will: I know that in order to have God's will for myself, I cannot have a will of my own.
X- 'X'amine: Self-examination gives me greater insight to why I am having problems.
Y- Yesterday: I cannot move forward today if I am looking back at yesterday. I am much healthier when I turn yesterday's fears into tomorrow's faith.
Z- Zeal: A life worth living, will involve zeal for spiritual principles.
