Hello! My name is Katie, I'm 21 years old and am a Junior in college. I'm currently living in Ireland and will be moving back home to Missouri in late May/early June. I miss my family and friends like crazy, but am so blessed to have gotten the opportunity to live abroad. I have met some of the most amazing people and have seen and experienced things that I never could have imagined. I'm much more independent, self-sufficient, open-minded, and optimistic than I was this time last year, and I feel myself growing and maturing every day of this adventure. I love my life and the people in it, and I truly feel like one of the luckiest people in the world.

My fiance and best friend, Chris, is currently deployed to Iraq and has been gone since September 5th, 2008. I miss him more than I ever thought I could miss anything, but I am so proud of him and everything he does. We're getting married after I graduate in May '10 and will grow old together until we're both senile and sitting on our front porch in rocking chairs holding hands. I can't wait :)

As for losing weight goes...I have been trying for nearly 3 years now to get back to my high school weight. I know that sounds ridiculous, but it wasn't too long ago that I was struttin' my stuff in a size 4 pair of jeans (that now hang in the back corner of my closet hidden behind winter sweaters so I don't ever have to look at them).

College has turned out to be very difficult for me. I've struggled through just about every eating disorder out there and have suffered from all the ugly side effects of each. I'm not ashamed to admit this because I feel like eating disorders are so much more common among young women (and men) than people realize, and I firmly believe that everyone needs to be more educated on how to spot and prevent them. It is one of my goals in life to help young girls who, like myself, have body image and self esteem issues. Even if I can only save one girl from going through the things I went through, I will feel like my time was well spent.

That being said, I'm happy to report that I'm healthy and happy and myself again after nearly 3 years of struggle. Overcoming that has been one of the greatest accomplishments of my life, and I'm so happy to finally leave those days behind. I'm ready to kick these 30 lbs in the rear (in a healthy way of course), and to finally pull on my size 4 jeans once again. I want to come home from Ireland looking healthy and fit and amazing...and you know what? I finally feel like I can do this. After 3 years of struggling, I finally believe that this is something I can and will do. I have the motivation and I have the drive, all I need now is a little time (and a little bit of God wouldn't hurt, it's always good to have Him on your side :) )

To get out of the mindset that being a college student is an excuse for my poor eating habits (ie pizza at 2 am...)

To find a happy median between eating healthy and treating myself every so often so that I don't cave one day from completely depriving myself

To keep myself motivated and on track, even when it gets tough!

To become healthier in general..I'm getting married after I graduate and I want to slim down now so that I don't crash diet before the big day

To lose 30 lbs before Chris comes home from Iraq (in September!)

And finally..to feel good for ME. Ultimately it's how I feel, and I can't wait to get back down to a weight where I feel great about myself.

    Hey thanks for the add! I am glad to hear you are enjoying Ireland so much. I lived in the UK for four years, and I'm embarassed to say I never made it over to the Emereld Isle (all thew more reprehensible given that I have second cousins there that still have a farm in Armagh). We did lots of other travelling while we lived there (North Africa, Turkey, France, Spain, Greece) but somehow never made it next door to Ireland.

    My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your fiance for a safe tour in Iraq (I am deploying to Afghanistan at the end of the summer)

    OMG! A K-stater!!!! Lot's of fond memories from there. Claim to fame was living down at 809 Bluemont, just stumbling distance from Aggieville.

    I was in GREAT shape in college - even did the Fight Night when it was still going on down there. Dropped 30 lbs in 2 months...geez.

    Make good habits now, because later, things can creep up on you. Keep in touch. I'll add you to my friends!
