update--as of 9/29/18, I've got all the weight off that I gained back and then some! I'm the lightest I've been in over 10 years! This was a milestone for me! Next goal is to lose 30#, to be under 200#. Hopefully by early next year (but New Year's would be nicer). : ) After that, I'd like to get down to 160-180 for a final goal (I'll have "extra" skin, so not sure how much to allow for that).

update--I was just diagnosed (3/29/18) with a-fib, so that was a real kick start to get back here and take care of myself again, after falling off the wagon last fall! : (

I lost over 200# 15 years ago, with the help of RNY (gastric bypass surgery) at age 42. Gained 100 back in the last few years after significant life events, and am now working to lose it again by tracking, eating healthier, walking and biking.

My Goals:
Get down to 200 lbs by January 1, 2019.
Short term--to walk and use stationary bike to build strength and hopefully bike outdoors this summer.
Learn new low-salt, heart healthy recipes and incorporate into daily life.
Join a gym and design a plan to keep from going off the rails again this winter!
Look into having loose skin removed when I lose the weight. Won't hurt to see what it would cost. Who knows, maybe I'll win the lottery, or they'll do it in exchange for advertising...??? If nothing else, at least I'll be smaller and can wear spanx if it bothers me. : )

My Program:
Tracking food and exercise.
Walking, biking, eating healthier, reading about healthy living on this website and others, and magazines. Using the knowledge I've already gained about what works for me to make better eating choices. Will add strength training and possibly join a gym this fall. Otherwise have dvd's and hand weights here at home, along with a stationary bike. Plus access to the treadmill, etc. downstairs.

Other Information:
Went into the clinic/hospital on 3/29 after waking up with my heart pounding hard and irregularly. Ended up staying overnight in ICU and being diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. The cardiologist thinks it was caused by my sleep apnea, not my weight. But I'm sure it doesn't help being this overweight. Got on the stationary bike last night (4/17), and I think it may be too strenuous for now. Might need to stick to walking for now, till I build back up again (hopefully) to biking outdoors sometime this summer.
Also have been tracking sodium, and am shocked at how much is in food--including supposedly healthy varieties! I was kinda watching it before, but apparently not as closely as I thought! I feel better eating this way, it's just been a crash course in healthier eating! My cardiologist said it's a matter of when, not if it comes back again (could be a month or a year), so I'm hoping that losing weight, eating healthy and exercising (like they always tell us) will keep me out of th

Hi Katie. How wonderful to live on Lake Superior! I grew up on the Lake Ontario shores, and they are still in my spirit. What a great idea to watch YouTube videos while cycling inside. Don't you just love the technology we live with now?! I remember when I got under 200 pounds after being over 200 lb for about 6 years. I hope you make it on or near your goal date. I'm rooting for you!

Hi Katie. Is your indoor bike a stationary bike? Or is it your outdoor bike with a stand for use inside? I had an elliptical for many many years in Canada, but my apartments are too small to use them here. I really miss my elliptical. But there is always something to find joy in, now being the sea for exercise. How is your weight loss going? Are you still in a downward pattern? I hope so. Big hugs!
