May 20th 2020: I have been struggling for several months now to stay focused on all the healthy habits I developed over time. Many factors have caused me to fall back to some unhealthy habits but I am determined to continue working on getting my spark back and keeping it.
I returned to Spark People in 2014 after two failed attempts previously. I was then able to gain success and have been in maintenance mode since 2015.

Ran my first race at the age of 63 in 2015 which was a half marathon and absolutely loved running. Hip arthritis and a fall which caused a serious injury has prevented me from running anymore however I do love to power walk and am able to go at a 15 min mile pace.

Distance power walking is what I love the most and I love to get a good 15k in when I am no in pain. Sometimes my fibromyalgia rears its ugly head as well as the pain of plantar fasciitis in both my feet that can prevent me from going the distance. In spite of the setbacks, I refuse to let it stop me. I do what my body allows for now while I am healing and continue to look for the day I can once again get out for a 15k and feel great afterwards.

My Goals:
incorporate more fruit into my daily nutrition
drink 8 cups water daily
some for of fitness daily for a minimum of 30 minutes

To keep my BMI in the healthy range
To reduce waist and hip size until my pants fits comfortably
To stay positive and focussed on the end results
** more goals to set as these ones are established and fulfilled **

My Program:
daily cardio for a minimum of 30 minutes 5 days per week
strength training 3 times week for a minimum of 20 minutes each session
consume 3 healthy meals daily
consume 8 cups water daily

Personal Information:
My name is Susan and I am 67 years young. I am a wife of 42 years to my husband Brian and mother to Lee-Anne, Daniel and Sarah and to my beloved son Ryan who passed away in 2017. I have 6 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.

I have been retired from my nursing career for several years now and both my husband and I enjoy spending time helping to take care of our great granddaughter, travelling abroad. I love power walking and am a retired half marathon runner due to physical injuries that curtail running any longer. I love to power walk (10 miles a day when possible) but have been curtailed with this for several months due to plantar fasciitis in both of my feet. I am working and getting them healed so I can get back to my passion of distance walking.

Other Information:
When I was in high school 1966-1970 I was on the gymnastics team so every year on my birthday I stand on my head to prove that I still have it!

    Thank you for commenting on my blog "This Motivation brought to you from Spark People". This is why I'm so proud of me on holding the line and not going up the scale further. You are right. Life is always changing. There will always be rain falling at times and it's not how I handle myself when the good times that matters, but when the bad stuff happens. I'm thinking if nothing else, this is great practice for when I reach the maintenance stage. I'm getting that down pat so I will just keep making changes until I reach the losing stage and once I get to the weight that I want to be, then I will just need to hold that line. Thank you for cheering me on.

    Thank you for commenting on my blog "How Far I've Come". I appreciate the support! Yes, it's all about the journey now for me. I have my short-term goals I'm working on and I also have my long-term goals of what I'm aspiring to get to. I'm finding that SparkPeople has an awesome perspective instead of limiting myself with what I can eat to just to learn to incorporate more of the foods that are good for me. I figure I will keep adding fruits and veggies until I'm eating 4 servings of fruit and 5 servings of veggies to meet the 9 they talk about. I figure if I'm eating that much fruit and veggies, I will have less room in my tummy for a bunch of junk food. Not that I won't ever eat it. Just less likely and I can turn my fruit into some healthier desserts. Today I'm making a Jello for 4th of July and it will have strawberries, blackberries and blueberries in it!
