February 12, 2018 I have been to Spark People website so many times since I first joined way back in 2009. I don’t know what I weighed then but today I still struggle with weightloss. My highest weight was 301 pounds, 16 years ago when I was 50 years old. My lowest weight since then has been about 255 pounds. I weigh 293.5 pounds today. I took early retirement almost four years ago due to a hip replacement, after working as an LPN for 38 years, in Long-term Care. The day I had my surgery I weighed 265 pounds. I gained 30 pounds after my surgery due to going from working 12 hours a day to doing nothing. Finally toward then end of 2017 at the weight of 295 and after meeting a new friend and getting fresh new motivation, I lost down to 258 pounds. It was amazing because for the first time in years I actually lost more than 20 pounds and this time I actually lost fat and went down a size. The first 28 pounds melted off like butter. The next 7 pounds were very hard to lose. Then the struggle with sweets began again. Sweets to me are like alcohol to an alcoholic. Like someone once said, for an alcoholic, one beer is too many and a case is not enough. I am the same way with sweets. One bite of something sweet is too much for me and a whole cake or a whole bag of candy is not enough. I either have to go cold turkey off Cokes and sweets or I will be full-on with them. There is no in between with me. At first I fool myself into thinking that I will eat something just one time for a birthday party or something but by month’s end I am totally off the wagon. I have come out of an unhealthy during this past year, and I put on 45 pounds in a few short months. I once again reached the 300 pound mark. I recently went for my yearly wellness visit. The obesity and my age has finally caught up with me. I was diagnosed with Diabetes, High Cholesterol, Thinning Bones, along with fatty deposits in my liver. This was a wakeup call for me. My doctor and I have agreed for me to try to eat more healthy and get more active for the next three months, then see if my lab numbers improve. If the numbers do not improve, I will have to take medication. My goal now is not just to "go on a diet" to lose weight, but to know the healthy changes have to now be a lifestyle for the rest of my life. I had not thought of Spark People in a long time. Today I was going through old papers, throwing away the ones I no longer need. During this process I "just happened to" come across a paper with my "Spark People" sign in info on it. Fitness Minutes: 65

My Goals:
I want to become more healthy and take some pressure off my knees. I hope to begin to move more while I am off work and at home.


My Program:
For now I am trying to not eat sweets and not drink cokes. I have heard a lot about eating six small meals a day not only helping with weight loss but also in keeping the blood-sugar level even. I am thinking of trying this since it is a way I can eat from all food groups and easily track my daily intake. I have also taken the first step of looking into a local gym..I haven't signed on the dotted line yet but I have taken that frist step which is a biggie for me.

My name is Kathy. I live in North Louisiana and my life for the most part is peaceful and content. I work as an LPN in long-term care. I'm divorced. I have only one child, a son, and two grandchildren, both boys.My son and his wife of over 20 years along with my grandsons live in West Texas. My oldest grandson recently got married so now I have the granddaughter I never had.
