My name is Marie, I'm 55, with approximately 40 more pounds to lose. I started at 261 pounds. I lost 20 pounds before I started at this website 3 months ago. I'm only 5'3". I have high blood pressure & high cholesterol. I do not have diabetes. I lost my mother to diabetes. I also lost my younger 42 year old brother to Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). My father died of SCA. I have one living brother who has both diabetes and heart disease. With this record and being so obese, it wouldn't be long for be to become a diabetic. I had many health scares. The last one was an ultrasound result, which stated my left carotid artery was totally occluded. I took an arteriogram and the test reslts came back stating there wasn't any occlusions. I felt so lucky and happy, I slowly started changing my eating habits to only healthy ones. As the story goes, I found this wonderful website. I couldn't ask for more. I just did a search one day and there it was. The lord knew I was serious and my desire was greater than any unhealthly food. This is how I arrived here at Sparkpeople.

I use the meal tracker, journal, sparkpoints, articles, etc. I keep coming back to sparkpeople which is truly a gift.

Personal Information:
I from Henryville (Northeastern, Pocono Mountains) Pennsylvania. I am married, mother of two adult children and have four wonderful grandchildren. I rescue stray cats through the Human Society. Yes, that makes me a cat lover. I am Civil Servant and have another 7 years to retirement. When I get there I intend to do more charity work, which is something I love. Perhaps working with the ederly (Meals on Wheels).

Other Information:
My two faviorte diet books are The Sonoma Diet by Dr Connie Guttersen, PHD and Suzanne Somer''s, Eat Great, Lose Weight. My favorite weight loss website is "Sparkpeople!"

    Hey GREAT job on your lifestyle goals and changes! I know you will accomplish at least as much as you have already (and that is A LOT!), if you keep on keeping on.
    My cholesterol was 232 when I began Spark, no meds. I just had my blood work done two weeks ago; cholesterol is now 177! No meds! I think changing out several meals a week to vegetarian has helped, the exercise has helped and people like you and this Site have most assuredly helped! God Bless!

    You are such a sweetie! Thank you leaving your kind, supportive words on my Spark Page. But as you know, I am just so motivated by the amount you've lost and continue to lose. That is such a motivator, to know real people who have actually tamed that scale to the degree you have.

    We're out to look at 4 houses today (yes, house-hunting). Sigh. We've been doing this since April. Sometime or other we've got to find 'it,' but I have a feeling (given the emailed pix I saw) that today is not the day. You do have to see things in person, though, so I still have a 'spark' of hope! Heh.

    I really like your spark page and the picture of your beautiful cats. I have been reading up on cats lately, I never had one but my dog is very old and think in the future I might get a cat. I was thinking from a Ragdoll rescue. Do you know anything about Ragdoll cats? I use to go to the Poconos every year around the winter holidays. It is beautiful there. I think about retirement but will not get a civil service pension as I work in the private sector so I don't know how long it will be for me. I live in Florida and don't know if I could get use to the winters again but have thought about the poconos as one place to retire if I could afford it. Anyway, you are doing great with your weight loss. I have another 56 pounds to go and take it one day at a time. I truly believe that someday I will get to my goal. It is nice getting to know you!
