Growing up, I was always too thin, but when I was 19, I suffered a severe back injury. The resulting surgery worked and gave me back the ability to walk, but the whole experience scared me. I used that fear as an excuse to stop getting any exercise. I gave up sking, windsurfing and many other activities that I enjoyed because I was so afraid of re-injuring myself. Then I got married, quit smoking, got divorced and gained a few pounds. Got married again, gained a few more, had a few kids and gained A LOT more. For the past few years, I've been so inactive, I've practically been comatose. But in early January, 2009, something snapped in me. I lost the "I should" attitude and suddenly actually wanted to loose weight and eat healthier. I bought a half broken down, used exercise bike and started pedaling. Next, I bought myself an ipod and began listening to my teen's "angry" music while I pedaled. I tried to keep up with the beat of that angry music and lost 10 lbs and an inch from my trunk in 1 month. That really motivated me, so last week I joined a gym. Not only will I get exercise at the gym, I also won't be able to afford to buy groceries for the next few months. That ought to help with the weight loss. LOL Then last night, I discovered SP while searching for a calorie calculator and here I am going public. I guess I really have to do it now. :) So, that's my story. So far.

Today's quote - The difficult we can do at once, the impossible may take a little longer.

Fitness Minutes: 8,320

My Goals:
Long term, I want to reach 150 lbs.

Weekly, I plan to exercise at least 6 days a week.

Daily, eat more veggies and learn to like fruit.

Run and swim long distances

My Program:
I'm looking at this as a lifestyle change, not a diet. I'm eating healthier foods and am getting up off the couch. I joined a gym in Feb. 09 and it was the best decision I've ever made. I can not believe how quickly and totally I have fallen in love with exercising. I've started wearing a pedometer and keep track of the the number of steps I take each day. I'm also keeping a running tally of the distance I travel through all forms of exercise.

While exercising, continuously repeat "You can do it. Nothing to it."

Personal Information:
I'm a 46 year old homeschooling mom with 2 kids. I enjoy reading, knitting, scrapbooking & other forms of paper crafts. I also love anything to do with the water - swiming, sailing, sking.... I'm looking forward to being able to do those things again - perhaps even this summer.

Other Information:
Things to Brag about:
2/25/09 walked a 15 minute mile
2/27/09 swam a 6 minute quarter mile
3/3/09 rowed 1 mile and biked 8 miles in 30 minutes
3/4/09 Swam a mile in 43 minutes
4/23/09 Swam 2 miles in 62 minutes
4/27/09 Ran my 1st mile, non-stop
4/25/09 Walked a 5K MS Walk
4/29/09 Ran 2 miles in 26.12 minutes

Distance traveled as of 4/26/09 - 454.3 miles

So did you survive all the snow? Get your fill of shoveling snow? Hope you and yours are all okay and had fun with it, rather than being put out by it all. And if you did shovel snow, and noticed your pedometer didn't seem to indicate much work done, let me know how many minutes and I can check on my little program to see how many steps worth of work you did.

I would think virtual knitting while virtual walking would be a whole lot easier than the real thing! If you figure it out, you can NEVER call yourself clumsy again you know - walking and knitting at the same time takes some real skills!

Okay Miss SmartyPants.....go look on my SPage for a picture of a dry sink (no wonder you Rebs lost.....) emoticon emoticon emoticon

I really, REALLY wanted to pig out, but since I had just weighed in that morning and knew I had lost weight last week, I didn't want the creep to take my stuff AND add those two pounds back, so I "made" myself think up something. And it was fun!

Yeah, you would think a big orange and pink flowered bag, all lumpy and bumpy from stuff being shoved into it, would notbe mistaken for anything of value. Oh well...... (but I would love to have seen his face when he realized his mistake!)

Of course I know General Joseph E. Johnston! Naturally, from my Yankee perspective, he was most famous for surrendering his men to Gen. Sherman at Durham, NC, but I always thought he was a good example of an officer and a gentleman. Hope you will forgive my Yankee roots (my however-many-greats grandfather was no one particular, and fought in the PA cavlary).
