Hi I'm Maria :)

I am a college student living and going to school in Minnesota. I have been trying to lose weight since about 8th grade, no joke. Even before that growing up I always felt bigger than everyone and if anything would go wrong I felt it was because of my weight. So in about 8th grade I talked my mom into bringing me to WeightWatcher meetings. Even though my starting weight was in the healthy range I wanted to get 'skinny' for all the wrong reasons.

All in all I wish I would have never done this. My life up to this point has been about my weight fluctuating and the number on the scale that I saw in a particular moment in my life. Family trips, prom, weddings, family events, and many other things I have tied to the number on the scale. Give or take about 2 pounds I know what I weighed in many different events in my life.

I don't want to live like this anymore. I want to be healthy and happy and not worry about the number on the scale. Because in the end that's all it is..a number.

I stumbled upon SparkPeople bored one night back in May, I have no idea what it was other than something to do with losing weight, so I signed myself up. lol I just recently have been logging on, making friends and learning from all the other inspirational people.

It hasn't been since just recently that I have consistently losing weight. I re-started Weight Watchers in in March of 2008, although I didn't really do the program, I started college in August and realized I really wanted to lose weight for me, so August of 2008 I consider my starting date. I'm 5'8" and I currently (12/11/08) weigh 166. I am going to hit my goal of 164 on 12/23/08 and want to get down to 155 by my birthday on 2/12/09. I am very excited with my progress and am looking forward to being healthy and fit!

Here are my weight stats, I have NEVER thought I would do this but I am posting them to hold me accountable and hope that seeing them occasionally re-motivate me:

A little Inspiration for all y'all:

A year from now you will have wished you started today.

Dance like no one is watching, eat like everyone is.

If you break your favorite piece of china, you're not going to proceed to break your entire collection, so pick up the pieces and move on.

If you don't go after what you want, you'll never have it. If you don't ask, the answer is always no. If you don't step forward, you're always in the same place.

Good choices come from experience. Experience comes from bad choices.

There are two choices really. You can either surrender to the pressures of life and the struggles of this particular battle....
or you continue the fight...and do so with even more vengeance and determination to reach your goals then you did before.
I choose the fight.....I know what it will get me.

To understand beauty, one must first understand ugliness.

The minute you settle for less than you deserve, you get even less than you settled for.

Do you choose to simply know the path, or do you choose to walk it?

It comes down to a simple question: what do you want out of life, and what are you willing to do to get it?

Listen closely: the only time it's too late to change yourself is when you're dead. Until then, you're simply making excuses or lying to yourself.

If you didn't need a pill to get fat, why would you need one to get unfat?

You won't fail if you're not perfect, you'll fail if you're not committed to improving yourself slightly each day.

Rather than aiming for being perfect, just aim to be little bit better today than you were yesterday.

We can reverse years of damage to our bodies by deciding to raise our standards for ourselves, then living differently. Old wounds heal, injuries repair, and the whole system improves with just a few changes in what we put into our bodies and how we move them.

Anything is possible, It's your choice whether or not you choose to make IT happen.

What would you attempt, if you knew you could not fail?

If you want what you do not have, you must do what you have not done.

Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels.
