As of today (3/2/2009), I am 35 and overweight. My goal is to prove to my doctor that I do NOT need meds for my health conditions and that I will be healthier. I weighed in on January 9th at 196 pounds, with a BMI of 32.

(UPDATE: 7/13/09) As of today I am 31 pounds lighter than when I started. GOD is so good! You can see it more in my face than you can in certain parts of my body. I can't wait to get my blood tests done in September to see if this healthier lifestyle will be reflected in my numbers. The doctor will then remove the "high cholesterol" and "diabetic" labels that she has placed on me. And I will be a living testimony to how God moves and works in us!'s to the next goal...the next 20.

What have I learned along this journey? Several things come to mind:
1) To forgive myself when I slip up.
2) To not judge others.
3) To help and encourage others who are on the same quest for a healthy lifestyle, OR NOT.
4) To say "NO" or "Do I really need THAT?" when faced with a tempting choice.
5) To be and stay active.
6) To embrace the OLD and NEW me, because without the OLD me there would be no NEW me!
7) There is NO WAY I can make it without HIM!

Update: 8/17/2009
After a BRIEF hiatus I am back on my plan. I needed the break because I needed the re-stimulation. I am now in the planning stages for my wedding and have to change some things up to get refocused on my goal. I am accountable to my doctor: my blood tests are in October and my follow up appointment is November 6th, the day I affectionately refer to as "D-Day". I WILL PROVE TO HER THAT I DO NOT NEED THE MEDS! That is my mantra and that is what I am sticking to. It's all about being healthy and fabulous at this point, and I thank GOD that He has not allowed me to fall off the horse and NOT want to get back on. I have missed you guys over the past 2 weeks and am looking forward to the final phase of my journey. WE can do this!

Thanks to a wonderful comment from a dear SparkFriend (WITCHY WOMAN...LOL), I have set some realistic goals for the last few months of the journey. Here are my goals:

Intro Phase:
January 09-April 09: 15 pound loss

1st Phase: April 30th (181lbs)-June 10th (170lbs)
Goal: 11 pound loss (181-170)
Actual: 11 pound loss
DONE! Thank you God!

2nd Phase: June 11th (170lbs)-August 1st (162lbs):
Goal: 10 pound loss (170-160)
Actual: 8 pound loss
Off by 2 lbs, but I still thank HIM for any loss!

3rd Phase: August 27th-(162lbs)-November 6th (155 pounds):
Goal: 12 pound loss (162-150)
Actual: 7 pound loss (Off by 5 lbs, but getting leaner with P90X). Thank you GOD for my continued loss!

Final Phase: November 7th 2009-January 9th 2010
Goal: 10 pound loss

Total loss goal since January 9, 2009 : 51 pounds
Currently: 42 pounds

***10/29/09 UPDATE***My lab results came back. My blood sugar is now normal, and my cholesterol is 10 points lower than it was one year ago.
Here is an excerpt from today's blog:
It's amazing how your whole journey and lifestyle change gets summed up just from a little piece of paper in a little envelope. This paper is a representation of all the healthy choices I've made over a whole year. It represents all the sweets I've walked away from, the red meat I refused, the unhealthy foods I have replaced with clean foods, all the ways I have physically challenged my body, and why God led me to Sparkpeople in the first place.

This is not a's a JOURNEY and is ongoing for the new ME. I didn't do it for a temporary fix...this is PERMANENT.

****************************UPDATE: 5/20/13****************************
