"Even if you are on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there." --Will Rogers

"Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all." --Dale Carnegie

"Defeat is a state of mind. No one is ever defeated until defeat has been accepted as a reality. To me, defeat in anything is merely temporary, and its punishment is but an urge for me to greater effort to achieve my goal. Defeat simply tells me that something is wrong in my doing; it is a path leading to success and truth." --Bruce Lee

"So forget about what is wrong with your current body. These thoughts will depress you, lower your energy, kill your will to change things. Get focused on where you want to be, what you want to look like, how strong you want to be. This is where you are headed, this is what this journey is about. Where you start is utterly and completely irrelevant. When you get in your car, your GPS says "go this way". It doesn't give a crap that you're currently not where you want to be, it just tells you the path to get there. It's not trying to get you away from some unwanted starting position, it's all focused on getting you to the wanted goal. Keep moving toward your goal, not away from your unwanted starting position. It's a huge difference. Motivation never works long term, it has to be inspiration."

"Pain is weakness leaving the body."
--Every Marine Corps Drill Instructor

Since I was a little kid, until I left the Marine Corps at age 30, I had always been active and fit. My job over the last decade, though, has put me on night shift, for the majority of the time, my activity has dropped dramatically and my weight had risen to a very unhealthy level.

I'm doubtful that I can get back to the same fitness that I had in my 20s but I have to try.

Fitness Minutes: 60,138

My Goals:
1. Do a better job helping my wife lose weight as I'm sure her previous attempts were hurt by my lack of trying. (Constant work in progress but so far so good)

2. Get back to a healthy BMI (have 1.5 to go)

3. Increase my strength and muscle mass (my best fitness years were related to cardio. I'd like to get strong now)

Initial lifting goals:
-Bench 1x bw
-Squat 1.5x bw
-Deadlift 2x bw
3b. Initial cardio goals:
-Run 5K under 30 minutes (just over 30 right now)

My Program:
* Strict portion control diet (always been difficult for me - and still is)
* Running 2x a week
* Using the Stronglifts.com 5x5 plan for strength training.

Personal Information:
I was born and raised in Kentucky, spent over a decade in the Marine Corps and eventually ended up in Idaho. I've been married for 21 years, have one grown daughter and another in high school.

Other Information:
Looking at me now, it's hard to believe that I used to train others to keep them in top physical shape.
