thank you for stopping by my page! i'm glad you're here. sparkpeople has been essential in my health journey, and i hope that you're able to find inspiration from my story and the hundreds of other stories on this site. don't put it off any longer; start today! make the choice to give yourself the love, attention, and health you deserve. you only get one body and one life. it took me a long time to realize that taking care of myself is key to showing my friends and family that i love them. i will never compromise my health at the expense of my family or my quality of life ever, ever again. i love them too much not to give them my best self.

DECEMBER 2010
i've been overweight as long as i can remember. i got down to a reasonably healthy weight my freshman year of college, but packed on the pounds throughout the next four years ... eventually putting me at 206 on my wedding day in december 2007. 6 months into my marriage, feeling unhealthy, unattractive, and miserable at my highest-ever weight of 225 pounds, i decided to change my life.

i started spending all my free time reading books and online about nutrition & exercise and learned how to do it the right way -- a complete lifestyle overhaul. i started exercising regularly, eating more whole foods and less processed, sugary, salty food products. i cut portion sizes drastically. i was able to lose about 30 pounds before i found out that i was pregnant, and then my goal shifted from losing weight to not gaining too much. i was extremely committed to maintaining my healthy new lifestyle because i wanted to give my son the healthiest start on life possible. i only gained 13 pounds during my pregnancy, and i lost all of it within a week postpartum.

as of this writing, i've lost 70 pounds. i am committed to working my butt off and getting in the best shape ever. ultimately, i'd like to weigh around 135 and have a low but healthy body fat percentage. i'm no longer obese, but i want to get out of my comfort zone and know what it feels like to be athletic and not to have extra fat anywhere on my body. i want to be a walking example to encourage others to do whatever it takes to take charge of their health and change their life.

JANUARY 2014
wow. i never thought i would be here again, over 200 pounds, feeling fat and miserable, but i am. i started thinking about all the things that helped me lose weight the first time and sparkpeople was instrumental in my success, so i'm here again. veganism was also essential in my journey to a healthy weight in the past, and today i am recommitting to that lifestyle as well. i am going to start writing on my sparkblog regularly so if you'd like to follow my journey please check it out! my goal right now is to lose 68 pounds over the next year. i've done it before and i know i can do it again!

My Goals:
i lost 78 pounds with sparkpeople in 2010-2011, but i've gained most of it back. my goal is to get down to a happy weight and STAY THERE FOR LIFE.

1. avoid dairy, meat, sugar, and processed food; i may eat fish occasionally

2. do something active every day (i'd like to get back to practicing yoga most days of the week and i want to run my second half-marathon this year, but i've got a lot of work to do to get back to that)

3. journal on sparkpeople daily


My Program:
FOOD
focus on eating fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts, beans, and whole grains. buy local and organic as often as possible. sugar & refined, processed food has no place in my diet.

Personal Information:
we moved to california in 2012. i have a bachelor's degree in english. i'd like to go back to school to get a second degree in nutrition or dietetics, or perhaps nursing. i've been married for 6 years and have two boys, born february 2010 and may 2012. i stay at home with our sons and keep busy with improving my health & fitness, sewing & knitting, cooking, painting, reading, and volunteer work.

    Thanks for the encouragement! I did gain all of my weight back and became very uncomfortable in my own skin (Back hurt, and aches)
    Today, I don't have those issues and I have only been at this again for 3 Weeks. It is amazing the changes (not weight) but my feeling and endurance. In three weeks, I am out preforming the 6 month diet me. So while the weight loss is slower, which in the pass I would have been discouraged, the new me is ok with it. I am feeling great and I am not as tired and I can do alot more. Imagine what I will be like in 6 months. I am excited! emoticon

    Read your response to 4MEKELL's blog and wanted to wish you luck. I took like 4MEKELL (and a few others that won't be named) are back on the wagon again. May we lose these pounds and better may they never find their way back again. You said it best...old habits die hard but we can't go back.
