I'm a retired Coast Guard engineer and presently an empty nester (three daughters either working or going to college). I've yo-yo'ed my whole life it seems...from size 6 to size 24. I'm tired of this health roller coaster from Hades and want to get off. I know I can lose the weight, having done it repeatedly, but what I really need to focus on is my health and getting rid of bad habits...finding excuses not to exercise, eating while watching TV, eating when I'm bored or depressed, forgetting to drink water all day...the list goes on! Now I'm on heart and high cholesterol medication. I'd like to either reduce or eliminate the need for that. So, time to make some needed changes to my lifestyle!

My Goals:
Lower blood pressure to below 120/75, cholesterol to below 180, increase HDL so that LDL/HDL ratio is lower than 4, all so that I don't have to take medication, bike with husband again, do sprint triathlons, become a Taoist Tai Chi devotee, eat 5-8 veggies/fruits a day, try new challenges, understand my body's needs better and achieve my healthy weight.

My Program:
Doctor recommended Mediterranean Diet. Eating fish at least twice a week, vegetarian at least once a week, cutting red meat to once a week, eating complex carbs instead of refined carbs, alcohol to no more than twice a week. As for fitness...start slow and try something new every month to add to the routine.

Personal Information:
I live in California in the North SF bay area. I currently coach gymnastics...Instructional Program Director and Instructional Coach. Everyone in my family (DH, 3 daughters) is slender and healthy. I feel like the odd woman out so it's time to make changes.

Thanks for the positive feedback! I know in the past having a plan before going to the movies has really helped me from overeating-I love movie popcorn!! So I allow myself to enjoy a small popcorn with no butter added, but will get the powdered cheese when available ;)
I hope you find a plan that works for you :)

It's so good to see you back on here! I'm still plugging away...yo-yo-yo-yo over the past couple years. I'm now a kettlebell fanatic though, and I'm planning on getting certified as an instructor, hopefully before I turn 54 in November! I'll be going to Palo Alto to do it, at my mentor's gym. She is my hero - she is very well-known in the kettlebell world, and lost 120 lbs just swinging the bell and eating clean. She was 41 when she picked up her first kettlebell in 2005. Her husband is one of only 9 kettlebell "RKC Masters" in the country!

Oh, and I went to Japan last fall! I went to visit my exchange student from 1992 - and her family! Her parents were my host family and they were amazing. They treated me like the most honored member of their family. I love them all so much!

So what's been going on with you? It is really good to see you back here! We're persistent, and that persistence WILL get us to our goals!
