Hi, I'm Becky. It is August 23, 2015
I am from Quincy, IL - half way between Chicago and St. Louis on the Mississippi River. I am a returning Sparker. I was a very devout user a while back and did quite well losing over 50 pounds, made level 20, got all the points I could and hit a plateau a just lost interest. Well, time went by and I slowly gained about 15 pounds back. I have CHF and CKF Stage 3 and was dying a very slow painful death.
The last weekend in July I had an "episode" where I felt like the life was being sucked out of me. When I explained it to the nurses at the ER, they asked my husband if I had a mental illness. It kind of ticked me off. But all my vitals looked perfect, with the exception I had a severe headache over my right eye. I thought I was having a stroke. I am 63 yo. We waited in the waiting room for over half an hour.
When we were in the room and they hooked me up and my heart started flip flopping from 65 down into the 30's and even down to 29 at one point, all the nurses paid attention to me then. I had blood drawn for every test known to man, a CT scan, x-rays, hooked up to every machine available, too, not to mention they hooked me up to oxygen as well. They put in me as an observation patient overnight, the next day I was transferred to the Cardiac Care Unit and the day after the next I receive a pace maker. At one point I was talking to one of my nurse and I had the same episode that I had at home. I continued talking but felt it. My doctor showed me the piece of the EKG where my heart actually stopped for 5 seconds then. Scary. But a few days after getting the pace maker I am a new person.
I have not felt so good in years. I have new energy and I can go back to my exercise class now. I have been a water exercise class instructor for 10 years and I get to start again tomorrow. emoticon I have had neuropathy pain in my lower legs for at least 7 or 8 years and the pain has been off the charts for the last 5 years. It is virtually gone now. OK so it is probably a 3 or 4 and just in my toes. I can live with that.
But, with the pace maker I feel I have been given a new lease on life and I am going to take advantage of it. Since being in the hospital I have lost 9 pounds. I am on a new medication - Amioderone - and my doctor said one of the side effects could be anorexia. I said - Bring it on!!! But, it's not happening yet. emoticon
But, that is my story and I am sticking to it. I have at least a 100 pounds to lose to get to my first goal. If I don't hit another plateau I'll be fine.
