I read about having sleep problems when my brother was having trouble from a depression medication he was taking. The advice said:
Take a warm bath before bed to help relax.
Don't play music or the tv.
Keep the room dark; use a sleep mask; have blinds and dark curtains.
Go to bed at the same time. Don't sleep during the day, no matter how tired your are.
Don't drink water after 6 pm, so you prevent needing to get up to go to the bathroom.
Once in bed STAY in bed. Even if you lay there awake, don't get back up and "do" anything. Why? because if at some point you fall off to sleep, you are in bed.
Most people with sleep issues find they can go to sleep, but wake up again after about two hours of sleep and then they are awake. Again, stay in bed.
Consider getting medication to relax muscles to help prevent "restless leg syndrome". Consider buying a massage/vibrator to use on your legs, hands and feet before going to bed to help relax and to increase circulation.
Keep the room cool. If you sleep with someone who moves around or snores, consider sleeping in another room alone. One woman resorted to sleeping in the back half of her walk-in closet as her husband didn't want to buy a King-sized bed.

Good plan to limit the bakes. I retired so it's not as easy to share. I need new outlets. I am considered donating to organizations to feed the homeless. Thanks for stopping by my blog, you sparked the homeless idea!
