Update 2/16/2012
It's been a roller coaster of a few weeks. The Sick Monster visited our house this month, and it's been a cycle of headcolds and sinus infections for weeks with only days of reprieve between. Despite feeling dreadful and not working out this week, I've managed to lose 8 pounds since last month--I've lost 81 pounds total! :-D

Update 1/11/2012
I blasted through 70 pounds even over Christmas, and am now at 73 pounds lost! In addition to that, I ran my first official 5k on Christmas Eve. It took me forever (50 minutes), but I ran the whole thing, I never stopped to walk. For me, that a success! I also turned around two weeks later and ran 4 miles for the first time!

Happy New Year, everyone! Here's to 2012: it's our year!

Update 12/13/2011
I'm 2 pounds away from 70 pounds lost! Even with Christmas right here upon us, we're sticking with it--we have no quit left! My first official 5k is New Year's Eve morning, and I'm both excited and nervous. It'll be great to finish it, though; and add another milestone to the list!

Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!

Update 11/05/2011
A little over a month since my last update, and I've lost another 10 pounds! My husband & I eBayed and were gifted Bodybuggs, so I haven't been as active around here. I do still check in, though; SparkPeople was the first place that helped me achieve my goals, and I don't take that lightly!

I hit my first goal of 250 pounds, so it's time to change my ticker! I also completed the Virtual 5k for October, so YAY!

Update 9/30/2011
Two days ago my husband and I both hit the 50 pound lost mark--on the same day! Together we've lost 100 pounds--I can hardly believe that. But I CAN believe it, because I've seen the pictures, I've felt the energy and the fascination with what my new body is capable of.

I have 70 pounds left to go to hit my goal, but that number doesn't seem nearly as daunting now--I've already almost done that much once!

We started blogging with James Garrison of Extreme Makeover: Weightloss Edition, and you can check it out at!

I'm so proud of us and am ready to see what comes next!

Update 8/3/2011
Today I can say I have officially lost 30 pounds! The last two months we kicked things up a huge notch. We started watching The Biggest Loser, and it served as inspiration to get us rolling. We've changed not just how MUCH we eat, but WHAT we eat; we're much more conscious of what goes into our bodies, and that can only be a good thing. We've stepped up our exercise and have started setting goals for ourselves--right-now goals, like holding 60 second planks (which is a toughie for me--but I just hit 30 seconds yesterday!)

I still worry about weight and losing it and how'm-I-doin, but it's about so much more than losing weight to me now--it's about accomplishment and a whole new life for me and for us. It's bigger than weight loss!

Update (6/9/2011)
As of today, I have lost 21 pounds so far. We've done so much better this time seeing this as a real life change instead of just a diet. Had a bad day? Ate too many calories for breakfast? It's okay! Most days are salvageable, and the ones that aren't are forgivable. We no longer tell ourselves that our day is ruined (so why shouldn't we eat what we want?). Besides, we're still eating the things we want to eat, we're just doing it differently. Together, my husband and I have lost 45 pounds! I am extremely proud of us.

Introduction (2/28/2011)
I'm 26-years-old, and for 18 of my 26 years, I've been overweight. I held steady at 220 when I was in college, which really wasn't so bad. I was fairly healthy, energetic, and mostly happy with my appearance.

At 19, I found out I was pregnant with my daughter. I had already gone from 220 to 245 before I even knew I was pregnant, and by the time she was born, I had reached 260. Over the next year, I didn't attempt to regain any ground and hit 275, where I stayed for a long time.

I came to SparkPeople for the first time then and lost 15 pounds in 3 months. As my boyfriend (now my husband) and I started to date, I stopped being as proactive. I didn't lose any more weight, but I didn't gain any, either.

My son was born weighing 10.8 pounds. By the time I delivered him, I had skyrocketed up to 301. Within a few months after he was born, I was down to 288. A few months after that, I gained until I was at 296.

My husband and I joined SparkPeople again for about 6 months, and we did well. I reached 267 and he lost 30 pounds. At that point, we found out that my son was suffering from developmental delays (he was formally diagnosed with autism in November of last year). Everything else stopped mattering for a while, and neither one of us paid much attention as we started packing the weight back on.

Suddenly I'm at 309 pounds, the heaviest I have ever been. Finally stepping on the scale made me cringe, and that's not okay. Now my husband and I are both dedicated to losing weight so that we can give our kids everything they deserve, including two healthy parents.

Just a quick hello. Hope you do something fun just for you..pray, sing, dance and laugh with life. Enjoy it all. thanks for all the great poems, comments and encouragement. HUGS......

Hope it makes you smile too.
As a child I saw Tarzan almost naked swinging from trees
and talking to animals. There was Cinderella that came
home after midnight, Pinocchio told lies and Aladdin was
a thief. Batman drove over 200 miles an hour. Snow White lived
in a house with 7 men, Popeye smoked a pipe and had tattoos.
Pac Man ran around to digital music while eating pills that
enhanced his performance. Shaggy and Scobby were mystery solving hippies that always had the munchies (just saying). Pigs talked and blew down homes, Goldilocks was a small child walking alone in the woods, broke into the three bears home and ate their food and broke their chairs. Little Red Riding- Hood also went into the woods alone. Superman flew everywhere and jumped into strangers windows. The Tasmanian Devil was just destructive. Charlie Brown was always depressed and downing himself. Men jumped over the moon, and Humpty Dumpty could not even sit on a wall. Robin Hood got praises for robbery. Jack and Jill could couldn't carry even a bucket of water and Jill didn't learn anything from Jacks fall. Little Bo-Peep lost the sheep, Wee Willie Winkie runs through the town, Upstairs and downstairs in his nightgown, Rapping at the window, crying through the lock scarring to death. OMG, Let's not forget MR. Bean and Pee-Wee Herman real role models.

I was always lied to there is no Tooth Fairy, no Santa
Clause or Easter Bunny. Hummmmm, I think I turned out just fine - just saying.

Just another 'proof' that The Bible is the best story book to raise our kids and grandchildren.

Thanks for adding me as a friend! My best friend's son is in the screening process for Asperger's right now, and her nephew was diagnosed 2 years ago, so I am familiar with the challenges of having an autistic child. I know that the challenge is worth the effort and that even on the hard days, the love you have is the strength to make it through.

Looking forward to getting to know you, and support you along the way!
