January 2020 time to bring this up to speed.

I am doing remarkably good. My weight hovers around 150, about what I weighed in "86. So I am quite happy with it but would like to be more toned. If I lose more, grand.

I had the spinal surgery I was so afraid of on Aug 28, 19, while very painful I knew as soon as I woke up that I had a positive outcome.

Then I found out that I had improved my kidney function to over 50%, something I'd been told I couldn't do!!! My kidneys are certainly damaged but dialysis is no longer close if I keep up with my diet and keep my blood pressure controlled, (I also dropped 1 BP meds + lowered doses on 2).

Just this week I was released from my neurosurgeon's care, I was told I can resume dancing, my favorite exercise, meaning I can join Tacy at Zumba, I can also ride a horse at a trot. I am excited, there is SO much my spine kept me from doing! I cannot move furniture or push a car, I should not do repetitive jumping. No complaints here!

I really woke up from surgery feeling like a new woman. Now it's time to live her life (and dance!)

My old intro:
"Not as worried about my weight as I am about my heart, digestive problems and joints, losing weight has been a happy bonus but I am not serious about it. Feeling good and strong is what I am after."
And, now:
August 2017 I was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease so my course has changed and it is Time to get Serious! I have been told I can't improve my kidney function but I can stop the progression of decline, and I must because if I lose another 15% it would be time to go to dialysis and consider a transplant. I DO NOT PLAN TO GO THERE!

My Goals:
To improve joint and heart health.
October 2017 update, I have done a good job with my joints even with more degeneration, I have improved flexibility, rarely use my crutches, just 2 rounds since 2010 and no longer than a week a time. I was not doing great for my heart, hypertension and all, recently those numbers are improving. I have kept the Diabetes that plagues my siblings and cousins away. But, I have to add a new goal maintaining kidney function, it's down in the 30s percentiles. I Did It!!! in the mid 50s, Jan 2020

Maintain kidney function.
Keep joints flexible (Oct 2017- told spinal surgery is my next treatment option- don't want that).
Keep lowering blood pressure ( August 2017- dangerously high, October 2017- high normal, November 2019 - low normal))


My Program:
Walking and low-impact exercise due to degenerative spine disease.
Added weights/bands to my daily routine, Nov 2019.
Watching every bite that goes in my mouth- is this good or bad for my kidneys?



Personal Information:
Married with a grown daughter and a dog living on the central coast of California.


Other Information:
We live within a mile of the beach on one side and a mile of the foothills on the other. Just kinda perfect except the occasional crazy storm or an out of control wildfire- we've evacuated a few times, and an earthquake now & then to keep us alert. But as our tourists say "you live in Paradise," then we add "most of the time". Santa Barbara is filled with parks and very dog friendly, so we walk alot. It's rural enuf that it's not unusual to get stuck behind a tracker on Cathedral Oaks or Modoc Rd and there is an occasional bear seen roaming the grounds at UCSB, but it's big city enuf to have an International Film Festival every February. After 25 years working as an X-ray technologist, a few years in school libraries, I retired and sat on my butt, after 7 years of that I returned to the work force and now I am a Page at the Public Library. This is a great job for me as I am moving for 4 hours a day, 5 days a week- pushing cartloads of books, reaching high and squatting low to shelve. A
