After looking at the other profile pic last week, I realized how drained I looked with that dark hair. I am going to brighten my look, and my attitude. So far, this new hair color is giving me lift!

(6 months on Spark, down 12 lbs) happy!

I joined Spark April 2008. But, it was literally months before I even looked at the site. I made a minimal effort and then forgot all about the site. Fortunately, the emails kept coming, and for a long time I would just delete them, but the persistence finally paid off, because one day I was feeling so bummed out about the extra pounds I was adding each month, and I thought, 'that Spark site keeps sending me emails, maybe I should check it out'.

So off I went, I came back here and started up again. That was in March of 2009. I have been involving myself more and more each month. (well, minus the 2 months I was off-line) but otherwise I keep plugging away.

I set a long term goal to loose 20lbs. I had in mind that I would easily accomplish this by loosing 1 lb a week. I found a group of women in my age bracket (50+) who had the same goal in mind, and I am so glad that I found them, because I immediately realized that losing 1 lb a week was not as easy as it had been when I was in my 30's. I have had great support from that group and I hope I have been helpful also.

Anyway, I began to do pilates for 20 minutes a day and doing that 3x a week. I don't mind the exercises, but for some weird reason, I just lost my momentum, and finally I quit. I am going to try again, same goal and same easy to do dvd (that I actually like). Thanks for all of my friends here, you all mean alot!

The longer I am affiliated with Spark.com, the more excited I get about coming here. I just watched the Inspiration Video on here and learned how and why this site was created. I recommend everyone view that!

As far as a program, I think for me the main part is me just showing up here, and allowing the gentleness of this site, the members, and the awesome staff who run this site to do its magic. The rest will fall into place for me. Sort of like me getting out of my own way.

    Thanks for caring so much about the things that affect us the most. (or will be affecting us a lot if things don't turn around)
    I have written my reps and senators and even the pres. I alway feel so powerless when I do it but I figure if more people would do it change would happen.
    I read the Farm to Consumer reports and get a lot of my information through them. It gets so confusing and overwhelming to me at most times that I just want to let it all go...but I don't. I HATE Monsanto!! I hate agribusiness! My husband and I purchase most of our food from local farms and small, local farmer's markets. We get raw milk from a friend and organic ground raised chicken and duck eggs. I love fresh-picked veggies!! I don't want these privileges taken from me.

    We own two pet goats that are dear to me. I don't want to have to register them with the government--how insane is that??!! I love my freedom. I am sickened by the mass media's brain-washing of people. I am sickened by people's unwillingness to, as Doc Mercola says, "Take control of your OWN BLOODY HEALTH!! (emphasis and extra expletives mine :) --I don't think Mercola would mind the "editing" )

    What are we, babies? Do we always want someone to feed us? Oh, don't get me started.

    Honestly, I do get confused by the technical aspects of the issues and often, while I'm blathering on and on I say unqualified things. I'm a generalist and generally, things are falling apart because of sleepy-headed people...I'm one too. :( ) But it's a passion of mine to tell people what I know. I know I've already P..sed off some people on SparkPeople. Will this comment get deleted because of my use of that slightly disguised word?

    Thanks for commenting on my blog. You are so, so right! People are starving and farmers are committing suicide on account of being duped into purchasing GM seeds from Monsanto. What they weren't told is that Round-Up Ready seed plants need LOTS of water. These poor farmers in India don't have the means to irrigate like the mega agribusiness here in the states do. And NOW they are dependent on Monsanto's patented seed abuse cycle. It's a crime!!

    Hey THANK you for commenting on my blog, and for RELATING! ARGH! It is so frustrating. If someone tells me: "you need to switch up your workout routine", I do. No change. If someone tells me, "You're starving yourself", I eat more. NO change. If someone says, "You are eating too much", I cut back. No change. If someone says, "You need to eat more raw, unprocessed foods", I go all organic. No change. If someone says, "You need to do strength training", I do. NO change. If someone says, "You need to drink more water" I do. No change. If someone says, "you need to eat less carbs" I do. A little change, but not long-term do-able, and no maintainable lossess. If my doc says, "take your meds consistently", I do. No change.

    I am beginning to feel like an alien! I have explored all kinds of avenues. I have literally, a world-famous endocrinologist at UCSF med center, who monitors my hypothyroid and diabetes. I see a naturopath, who monitors other deficiencies and toxicities. I have a personal trainer. I belong to two gyms, and use them both, consistently, 5 days a week. I have my produce delivered to my front door once a week from a local certified organic farm. My meat and dairy come from the health food store-- certified organic. I've been tested for celiac: negative. And yet, I'm tired.... and forever chubby. It makes me angry. I am working so hard, harder than many I know, with so little result.

    Thanks for letting me spew my sadness all over your page! lol!
