How did I get to my 60's and NOT realize how important health is?
Being overweight most of my life became a habit.
I mean... I knew I was "FLUFFY" and needed to lose weight but I didn't realize how important having good health is.
ALSO how much my eating habits can influence my health. Now that my health is failing I've finally realized that I do have control and the ability to make good choices. I can do this. I just wish I had done this sooner. But no looking back. Only forward. I have lowered my A1C results from 10.5 in October '09 to 6.1 March '10. It sure is hard work. But I get much encouragment from the stories and articles here.

Update 06/07/2011: I’m no longer in my 60’s. Boo hoo But time marches on.

I have been maintaining a 70 lb. loss since January. Amazing for me. Now to get on with the rest of the "fluff".
I'm making a new commitment to journal, weigh and measure foods and stop being so indulgent. I need to eat more veggies and fruits , and less "healthy treat" foods. My goal is at least 25 lbs. by the end of the year. I've done it before. I can do it again.

My Goals:
To eat healthfully every day. to limit portion sizes, and stay with in guidelines my Dr. set for kidney disease.
I will stay with in 1,000-1300 calories a day.
Recently changed to this to stay under 1,300 cal. It's still slow going but what have I got to lose but weight and time?


My Program:
1,100-1300 calories a day. I tried a higher amount but only losing 1-2 lbs a month was discouraging.
This new lower amount seems to work.
Follow the diabetic guidelines from my dietician. Changing the calorie amount again. Going to try for under 1350. I've discovered slow is ok. As long as it's a steady loss downward, I'm ok with it.



Personal Information:
I live near San Francisco, CA. a few miles from the coastline. I am a grandma/great-grandma of almost 12. LOL One is due in July. Well we had that new little one. A girl, Nina and she is 5 months already-Dec. Well add two more to my great grandchildren list. Uzziah Sept 2012 and Natalie, Dec. 2012. Total 14! Precious-every one of them.

Baptized in 1969 as a Jehovah's Witness. My religious beliefs and actions make me who I am.

    I saw your blog and saw we had a lot of similarities. I have had bad health cause of my weight. I have probably lost 1000 lbs playing the yo yo game. emoticon I had a knee replacement last year and what a joke. Got infection in it and had to go in for a manipulation done that was far more painful then the surgery. I am trying to lose again and get the encouragement from spark people. I really appreciate the inspiration I get. Hope things go well for you and hope we can be spark friends. emoticon emoticon
