When I joined Spark People back in 2006, it was with the high hopes that I had finally found an answer to my life long battle with my weight.

I tracked and exercised and lost over 40 lbs! Unfortunately, life changes happened and I quit tracking first and eventually stopped exercising. And I think you know what happened next. Yes, I gained the weight back!

Over the last few years, my story is the same as many other Sparkers. My weight has been up and down. My weight is finally taking a toll on my health and I have had to go on blood pressure meds. I am very disappointed in myself but I am not a failure as I have never quit trying.

In Oct 2014 I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. I always said my weight was not affecting my health so I was blindsided with my diagnosis. I guess I was in denial. All my poor food choices and lack of exercise finally caught up with me!

My A1C was 7.8 and I was told to lose 40-50 lbs as soon as possible. I took my diagnosis very seriously and began following a low carb/high fat diet and a walking program. The pounds starting falling off. I have now lost 68 lbs and I see my goal weight as a reality.

My A1C is now 5.3 and I am off all my meds so I am hopeful to be at goal when I go to my Doctor in June.

Not close enough for a day's journey. Just watched a PBS program on the "Wing over the Grand Canyon and it has connected all the national parks from the head waters of the Colorado river in Clover Valley CO. to AZ. 7 parks all inclusive. There certainly has been beautiful scenery and drives!

LOL I've heard the same from HD...shut it off if you can't stand what they are saying. I think I get upset sometimes as we are always hearing about the pres every day. I never remember that ever happening before, but then again we didn't have a pres that used social media as much.
I do believe paper ballots are the way to go instead of those voting machines that can be hacked and the votes altered. We have paper out her in the valley, the kind you connect the ends of an arrow by inking in the middle to make your vote. No chads to punch out. Anyway it would keep our enemies from messing with our voting system.

After all the shootings, it is easy to see there is a great amount of anger among younger men. I can't firgure that one out unless it goes hand in hand with young people saying they feel more lonely and disconnected. My feeling is that they need to get their heads up walking down the street instead of staring 24/7 at the telephone. Looking up they just might meet a great person. Have a soda and sandwich with friends instead of instant messaging them and never seeing them.

Our realtor friend said it got so bad with their grandchildren that they now have a basket just inside their door where everyone puts their phone when they come to their home to have dinner. They wanted the kids to talk to them instead of on their phones.

My Spark friends are the only electronic friends I communicate with. The rest we just e-mail to arrange meetings. I joined a ASG American Sewing Group this last spring and am having a great time with them. We meet and work on charity projects and show and tell on what we've made etc. It's a fun group as we also lunch out after the meetings. Our goal now is making quilt blocks for charity quilts at shelters, homeless. Yesterday we had a trip to San Francisco to Britex fabrics. It is a 4 story building full of the best fabrics in the world. If you can't find it there, they don't make it. It's like paradise. I've always liked textiles and working with them. My mother, I didn't realize until I was older that she was a designer in her own right. We would go shopping for school clothes and I'd try on the things I likes and she would look at them and then buy the material and copy the designs I liked. With 5 girls I guess it was more a necessity that she used her sewing skills.

Well, I've spent this last week out in the pool and walking around our property. Lots of things in the garden are ripe, but I've also noticed that some things didn't get pollinated. That seems odd. We have a plum tree just turning. They are still red and hard. When they are ripe, they will turn soft and dark purple. I tried planting pole beans this year and they went just wild tying up everything else in the garden. We tried to eat them last night, but they were tougher than the blue lake green beans.. They won't be back in the garden again next year! My cherry tomatoes are multiplying very fast, but yet the larger tomatoes are hardly producing anything. I did dig up the fingerling purple potatos and they were very good. Carrots and onions are also doing well. Strawberries now on their fourth bloom of the season. They are excellent, I think they love their south sunny place.

That's it for here for now. Earthquakes seem to have simmered down. We never did feel any of them on our side of the valley.

Going to go and do my core and balance exercises. Have a good weekend!! emoticon

End times.... believe me I've thought of that same thing. That and the anti-Christ. My DH says that every generation thinks things are going downhill with the younger people, but he says things seem to come around. Seems like we always expect a hero to come along and save us at the last minute. It's very upsetting to me that countries don't seem to take this seriously. Can't hardly breathe the air in China they polute so much.

I guess to make myself feel like I'm doing something positive, I've joined a couple of local environmental groups. So far we have saved thousands of acres from development from big contractors and in the process put many more into parks with trails etc. I feel that we need to get people moving if there is going to be a planet for us to live on. To that end I'm trying to educate myself on what is new out there. We watched the debates last night and I believe it was the candidate from Michigan (I'm not quite sure on this as there are so many Dems running) Anyway he talked a bit about technology that will take the CO2 out of the air. Somewhat like air scrubbers do on the space capsules. I'm sure it's more complicated since it is on a larger scale, but it may be promising. I also heard Jeff Bezos from Amazon wanting to find a compatible planet and then ship all the polluting industries to it. I think Jeff's $$$$$$ would be better spent working on a CO2 eliminator. He like Elon Musk think that we need to find a new planet to run to and ruin. emoticon If they look at the logistics.....there is no way to get the world's population all shipped off to someplace else....we already looked at this many many years ago at NASA. Better to quit waiting for Super Man and fix what we've been given. At least those are my thoughts. What do you think?

The FBI is still in the Gilroy area. Since the shooting incident the park and surrounding area have been cordoned off and everything left as is. I heard on the news that many vendors still haven't been able to get back there and retrieve their food wagons, cars, trucks etc. They said it would be awhile as they search everything. Rodeos start around the bay area during August. I have to wonder how many people will attend.

Back to really sticking on my food plan and in the pool doing aerobics. My joints feel so good after that, it's a good workout, but makes me so tired I'm looking for my PJ's early. So it's time to say good night and take care!
