    emoticon Glad we are both back on track. I haven't had chocolate since May 23. So far I haven't really missed it and it has been 2 weeks. How long will I stay off of chocolate? Not forever, but for as long as I can.

    Oops! I forgot I had a bite of A's peanut butter dip. It had chocolate chips in it. That was on R's birthday, the 28th. It was only one bite on an animal cracker.

    Been walking more. What are you able to do since your surgery?

    I was recently reading something on how whatever your mind is focused on is also what your mind works on to make happen in your life and this goes on in your subconscious (your heart). Everyone of us daily makes 100s of decisions that we aren't even aware that we are making. In effect we are thinking on autopilot according to what is in our hearts. As a man thinks in his heart, so is he, the bible says. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth not only speaks, but our actions proceed. Our mind shapes our reality through all those unconscious decisions to whatever we are mentally focused on. When we constantly focus on food, even in a negative manner, that is what consumes our thoughts and therefore our actions.

    The truth is that we get so focused on 'food' that we forget that this is all about making a permanent lifestyle change which requires time. It also requires GIVING OURSELVES the necessary grace and space to learn and grow. Give yourself permission to eat whatever you are hungry for. When we take away the "law" part of dieting, we will be able to step out of the rebelliousness and gain control of our thoughts first and then our actions.

    Kick those thoughts of shame and failure right out the door! Jesus bore your shame on the cross. It no longer belongs to you so give it back to the one who can handle it. Refuse to believe the enemy's lies that you have failed. You have NOT failed. You ARE learning and growing even if your "feelings" are telling you different.

    Whenever I catch myself thinking about food, I ask myself 1) am I really hungry? 2) is it an appropriate time to eat? 3) why do I want to eat? 4) is there something else I can do first? Please note that "first" and not "instead".

    I was struggling as you are. The Lord helped me to know how to pray specifically in my situation and I feel it may apply to you as well.

    This is my prayer: Father, please open the eyes of Sherry's understanding that she might see the 'hidden' focus of her heart and then be able to actually change it and bring it into submission to the Spirit of God. Please give her the grace and the strength that she needs for today. And, Father, help her to discern the thoughts and intents of her own heart and be able to surrender those to You and allow you to bring the change. Please give her your peace that passes all understanding that it may guard her heart and her mind in Christ Jesus. Amen.
