Thank the Lord for SparkPeople!! I happened upon this site purely by accident and found it to be a wonderful motivator for me. The spark teams seem to be the core of it all, and there are so many to choose from.
I have been a widow for 20 years, live alone with my dog, muffin in a cottage in a mostly Christian retirement community in Stuarts Draft,Virginia. I have two children but unfortunately, no grandchildren.
I've lived in the Blue Ridge mountains for nearly 45 years, and know every hill and hollow in my area. Most of my life was lived in a small mountain community called Love, Virginia, population 89. Living on a mountain in a cabin was what I always dreamed of and life was good there until my husband died...then life seemed to take a nose dive and that's when I started eating so much. Sounds like an excuse, but I became addicted to food because it made me feel good. Thank God I did't take up drinking!! I entertain a lot, so I cook and bake a lot. Well, years of unhealthy food has caused this over-weight condition. I know it won't come off overnight, but I know NOW that I can get it off with God's help and SP of course!
I have been very active all my life, but when Osteoporosis began to take it's toll on me ...and still does, I began to slow down, at least my body did, but my mind is still very active and I want my body to be as active as my mind.
Being 77 years old now, exercising, and dieting comes hard, but I'm determined to lose 30 pounds even if it takes me several years. I've been defeated many times in trying to lose weight, but through prayer, and SP, I'm going to try again ...and again. Thanks SP for keeping me posted even after I left for awhile, and to all you team members for your help and encouragement. Don't give up on me!

My Goals:
I would like to lose 30 pounds and feel comfortable in my clothes again . I want more energy, and live a more healthy lifestyle for as many years as l have left..

My Program:
I am currently trying to maintain a 1500 calorie diet per day, changing my life style by filling in the time slots when I eat the most, (evening while watching TV ) with other activites like reading, painting, etc. I'm walking 1 1/2 miles per day and taking low-impact arobics three times a week. ( whew!) I'm also drinking more water.

Personal Information:
I live in Stuarts Draft, Virginia, foot hills of the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains in a lovely Retirement community .

Other Information:
I like to write, and I belong to a Senior Writers group called TWIGS (The Writer;s Interest group for
Seniors)(see our website for some neat stories). I Tole paint and like to do Trompe' Loeil' paintings and murals. ( see photo gallery ) I also like to play the Baritone Ukulele. One of my favorite books is "Follow The River" by James Alexander Thom,
I have many favorite movies, but for now, an oldie is, "Pay It Forward. "My favorite poet is Maya Angelou.
My favorite quote from the Bible is: "I can do all things through Christ who strenghens me" .........

    how are you? We both started out two years ago. For a long time I was just drifting, not serious enough. But now I count every morsel I eat and change my way of looking at food. And it worked!
    I would love to read some of your writing. I always wished to be a writer but never did. It was one of my favorites in school.
