A Fresh Start for 2017
As I look ahead to 2017 I see it as a chance for a fresh start. 2016 was not especially bad, but it was not especially good either. I ended the year with a small gain (about 3 pounds I think), but it could have been much worse. A recent doctor's appointment revealed that I might have both pre-hypertension and pre-diabetes, so I think that is my wake-up call to take my weight issue more seriously. I am also hoping to retire within the next 18 months and I want to be healthy enough to enjoy my retirement, so now is the time to act. I feel like I am ready to commit to making the changes that will help me become healthier in 2017.

My Goals:
I would like to be able to climb stairs without being out of breath and to sit down and not see (and feel) a roll of belly fat!
My Program:
I belong to TOPS for the accountability of weekly weigh-ins and face-to-face support, but I like the 24/7 availability of SparkPeople. I am trying to be careful about portions sizes and also to make smarter choices, substituting healhier versions of some of my favorite foods rather than giving them up completely. Watching what and how much I eat along with exercising regularly should get me closer to my goal weight.
Personal Information:
My name is Beverly and I live in southern Vermont. I have an adult son and daughter and four grandchildren- three boys and one girl.
