"If you're trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I've had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don't have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don't turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it." ~ Michael Jordan

"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." ~ Michael Jordan

I wrote the following piece on 1/8/08 in honor of all my SP friends. I have been so inspired by your determination, diligence, and kindness. Regardless of the various stages we are on our journey of good health, I'd like to let my friends know that your inner beauty is shining through our virtual connection on SP.

My eyes are beautiful not because they are bright and perfectly shaped.
They are beautiful because I see the beauty of the world God has created.

My lips are beautiful not because they are full and luscious.
They are beautiful because they offer words of comfort to those who are down.

My bosom is beautiful not because it fits the ideals of Hollywood.
It is beautiful because inside beats a heart that loves and forgives unconditionally.

My hands are beautiful not because they are soft and manicured.
They are beautiful because they reach out to those in need.

My torso is beautiful not because it is flat and toned.
It is beautiful because it carried a precious baby from conception to birth.

My legs are beautiful not because they are shapely and tanned.
They are beautiful because I dance to the beat of my own drum.

In spite of my tired eyes, thin lips, sagging bosom, rough hands, flabby torso, and pasty legs...
I am beautiful!

    Nails In The Fence

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence.

The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence.

Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all.

He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.

The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone.

The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence.. He said, 'You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. But It won't matter how many times you say I'm sorry, the wound will still be there. A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one.

Remember that friends are very rare jewels, indeed.

They make you smile and encourage you to succeed. They lend an ear, they share words of praise and they always want to open their hearts to us.

Please forgive me if I have ever left a 'hole' in your fence.

Hi, Start! Thank you for checking in on me a while back. I am still alive, even though I have not been on SP for a loooooonng time. I miss it a lot, but for some reason, I just can't seem to get my butt in gear and write a blog!!! I'm still running and riding my bike, but I'm not training for anything big this fall. Just takin' it easy this summer.

I hope that you are doing well. I miss you.
