I am playing the 10% game with myself. After (finally) losing 10% of my body weight by cutting out dairy (after being gluten free for 6 months), I decided that my Type A personality needs small, attainable goals.

Here's my story:

I joined SparkPeople in October 2008, and didn't do a damn thing with it. I was too busy to change my life. It could wait. Little did I know a month later, everything in my life would change.

I was thin, but always fought with my weight. Looking back now, it was disgusting--I thought sizes 4-8 meant I was fat! I suffered from bulimia from the time I was 18 until I was about 27. By the time I turned 32, I was heavier than I was when I was 9 months pregnant.

Even more difficult than my increased size was the fact that I am disabled. In November 2008 (one month after joining SparkPeople), I became seriously ill. After four surgeries in less than one year, I got worse instead of better. Due to constant abdominal pain, getting up and moving led to complete immobility and no sleep due to the pain.

When I first became ill, I decided to write a fiction novel. Soon, due to the depression from my situation, I stopped writing and almost everything else. I had no motivation.

My children and husband need me. I need to be able to be active and healthy for them.

What changed? Well, for one thing, it turns out I have pretty severe food allergies and an autoimmune disease. Ironically, losing those foods from my diet is not the total reason that I am losing weight. It comes down to setting goals and deadlines (thanks, SparkGuy).

During November, I participated in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month). Using a support system and knowing that I only had one month to achieve my goal really helped!

The other thing that helped was looking at the calendar and realizing that I could have already hit my goal 10x over. Ouch! Talk about a reality check.

My Goals:
My goal is to feel better-both physically and mentally.
I'd like to be able to be in pictures and videos with my children without worrying that I am embarrassing myself and my kids.
I want to be motivated to start writing again.

My Program:
I am logging onto SparkPeople daily and taking baby steps.
I have also spread the Spark to several of my friends, hoping we can motivate each other.

Personal Information:
Disabled attorney who is home and stir crazy. Mommy of 2 kids and wife.
I'm hoping that this will spark me into writing my novel.

Other Information:
I am taking my weight loss 10% at a time. Baby steps. . . .
I lost my first 10% now onto my second. If I calculated correctly, then I have 4 more baby steps to go!

Reward for next 10%: New Sneakers

Thanks for asking about my writing. I haven't been writing except writing e-mails!

On the brighter side...I've had some ideas just recently about what to do with the writing I've begun and how to add on topics I want to write about.

The writing I've done isn't in any order. It's my story so it needs to be somewhat in order. I thought about this and decided to put each part on a different page in my wordpad. Even this will help!

Then if or when I want to add on to a certain page, I can find it without reading all I've written.
If I want to make a new topic, I can make a new page. I'm hopeful about this!!
If you think this will help you, great! Go for it. love, Darlene

I'm in the Treat Yourself group but I must admit I haven't been very good about actually participating.
Saw your blog and also CAROLINAMUSED's comment - it's funny, I know another disabled Type-A attorney. She has MS and gets about in a scooter, when she can get someone with a big enough vehicle to load it. It made me think I should mention sparkpeople to her!
I will friend you if you don't mind...hang in there and focus on the 6 people who came! Good friends are better than many friends...
