I’m a 50+ years young woman who’s been on a weight loss, and health gain quest for many years without any permanent success. I’m hypothyroid, in menopause, as well have been diagnosed as pre-diabetic, high cholesterol and have suffered from severe insomnia, depression and adrenal fatigue. Over the years I’ve watched my weight and waistline rise, and my health decline. I’ve practically tried every diet, weight loss plan and workout on the market, without any prevail. Even if I was actually able to take off some weight, it would always find its way back.

After years of trying, I was about to give up and give in. I figured it was just my destiny to remain fat, sick and unhappy. In September 2017 I decided to try one more time, and I started working with a Functional Medical Doctor at the Cleveland Clinic. He wasn’t trying to cover up my symptoms with unnecessary prescriptions, but he was actually taking the time to listen to me, and find the root causes to my ailments and weight gain. I was put on a very strict elimination diet, prescribed supplements and also prescribed to begin intermittent fasting. Things were finally looking up, I was losing weight, and starting to feel better. I had a few setbacks here and there, but I was still making progress.

In March of this year I suffered a terrible accident and injury in the gym that required surgery and a long recovery. I became depressed, and mentally I just wasn’t focused on losing weight and keeping up with my program. I was basically using food for comfort, and needless to say the weight started coming back on. Then in June something reignited in me, my drive was coming back, and I was ready to really commit myself to change. I mean REALLY COMMIT 100%! So I did, AND IT’s WORKING! I’m really doing it this time! Thank God I never quit!

My Goals:
My goal is to continue to lose body fat, tighten up, and gain muscle!

My Program:
I practice daily intermittent fasting, generally a 20:4 protocol. I pretty much eat (OMAD) one meal a day, but some days I include a snack, and occasional extended fasting.

I meal plan about 2-3 weeks in advance. It kinda sucked at first, but now it only takes a few minutes.

I log my food most daily.

I eat real whole foods and try to avoid processed foods. I shop the perimeter of the grocery store and try to avoid the center isles except for a few things. I don’t eat very many low carb sweeteners, or treats. I find them too triggering. If I don’t eat them, I don’t crave them.

I also don’t force fat. I know keto is high fat, moderate protein, low carbs, but I only consume fat for satiety. I don’t eat fat bombs, or drink fatty coffee etc... because I have body fat. The Only macros I focus on are carbs and protein. I keep my carbs low, and try not to go over protein. As far as fat grams, I don’t aim for high amounts, because my body will make up the deficit through my body
