Hi All! My name is Becky and my sister Susiemt said it was time to update my spark page. Well here goes. When I first joined spark 4 years ago my husband and I were going to retire in the next five years. I have been retired for 2 1/2 years now and it is wonderful. I am so happy I started my journey a couple of years before, because now I feel just great. I have lost over 170 lbs and am able to do all of the things I couldn't do before like, walk great distances without losing my breath, ride a bicycle, put on a swim suit, play with my grandson, go hiking etc. It has been a long journey with no end in sight but really well worth every minute.
My normal day as a retiree goes something like this: The first thing in the morning after coffee my sister and I usually walk or ride our bikes (weather permitting) over to the fitness center where we do our cardio and strength training. It usually takes about an hour and a half to accomplish this and then it is the walk or the ride home. Sometimes we take longer bike rides but with the weather (Hot) being what it has been this season we just usually call it quits and head for home and our wonderful lunch. We have collected many healthy recipes from spark and we have the best lunches on the planet. The rest of the day is filled with sparking, shopping or helping my youngest daughter out with her son which I might add is a joy.
I wish anyone who reads this much success on your journey. Remember that it takes a whole lot of work and self discipline but it is so worth it.

Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other.

I just read your story in Woman's World and loved that you and your sister work on your health together. I just read your info page on Spark. I've been retired myself now for 3 years and I laughed when I read that you go shopping sometimes and don't really need anything. I was telling my hubby the other day that I was amazed how much further my money goes in retirement. We didn't think we could survive on our SS, but apparently there were so many expenses involved in working that we didn't realize. And of course, at this point in life I've realized that we don't really "need anything" either although it is just fun to buy something occasionally. My mom's 93 and I take care of her checking account remotely. Even she has the urge to buy some new top or other piece of clothing once a month. I always smile when I see that she's ordered from her favorite catalog! Anyway, congrats on your continued success.
