I have come a very long way from 226 pounds and 10+ repeated major weight loss attempts. I'd wasted down in size suddenly ... my lifestyle has been no match against high blood cholesterol, which is hereditary; plus Type 2 diabetes.
I did not ask for any of of a whole bunch of chronic diseases (relatively expensive to manage well, and in tandem), but it's never too late to turn things around!

Thanks to everyone here at SparkPeople, particular SparkCoach Jen, for encouraging me, through articles and team participation; and having participated in the Community Team, to encourage my putting up my first-ever blog site on SparkPeople...not counting that time I did the Dr. Phil diary website, because that was not really a blog in those years ... and nobody could post comments to it ... Dr. Phil says he reads everything, and I almost believe him ... but now I do not care ...

Dancing is my passion ... again, and despite some bad, flat feet that give me pain. I still keep my hand in doing some yoga ... it once had been practically my sole form of exercise from 2011 through early 2013. Having felt underdosed on diabetes meds, I'd had to add intense low impact cardio. Since too much of it was my own Bellydance routines, I added Richard Simmons and Patricia Moreno (recently discovered Intensati) to the mix ...

Attention: while I believe "pre-diabetes" is a made-up diagnosis [I, personally, never went through that stage], any pre-diabetic who gets very into yoga should also supplement their yoga practice with actual cardio ...
that is, exercise that leads to both rapid AND deep or shallow breathing at the same time. Rapid--and deep or shallow--breathing, not just your heart pounding, not just a raised pulse rate!

And certainly not just by breaking a sweat! Take that from someone who, as a former lap swimming enthusiast, doesn't like to sweat to this very day ... !

You could get all those effects just by watching a horror movie ... doesn't even have to be in an overheated room!

Well, anyway, though--nutrition is more my bag ... no expert at either movement nor nutrition, at least not yet (and still do yoga.... occasionally ... I created my own practice which has been still a work in progress Changing a self-innovated routine really mashes things UP!

Fitness Minutes: 31,252

My Goals:
I formulated and started my own diet on December 27, 2002, that I never went off of, literally!
I am of the mind that I do not have any kind of wasting syndrome anymore, just wound up far below my original goal weight
...my body's manifestation of DM type 2 will not let me regain without causing major symptoms ...

My Program:
Nutrition all the Way! 2nd UPDATE: Must be low-carb. Could be pescetarian under better circumstance. I have to ditch nearly all carbs, excepting breakfast and metabo-meal. Diagnosed as a diabetic in Jaunary 2013, but I refuse to give in without a fight.

Now on 1,450 - 1,620 delicious calories' maintenance program per day--with my hectic life! Which includes too-little Cardio (managing high blood cholesterol AND diabetes!) ... but I am learning bit by bit.
And as far as cardio, to come back for second helpings ....

Personal Information:

You will be surprised what (unconventional) wisdom comes out of supposedly faddish diet books, such as "Six Weeks to OMG! Get Skinnier than All Your Friends", "Good Calories Bad Calories" as well as "The Great Cholesterol Con" ... in addition to, "Grain Brain"

    I am in a self designed line dance teacher program. I teach line dance to my friends and have taught at a community center and active senior center. I belong to a professional organization. But I felt the need to have lessons myself. I wanted someone to watch me dance and give me feedback....someone who knew a lot about all kinds of dance and whose opinion I would respect. So I found a wonderful ballroom dance teacher that has been a dream to work with. She suggested that she videotape me and then we could review it together. It was a great learning experience!

    Hi, I saw your comment on a message board about your knees hurting after three days at the gym. I have old knee injuries and if I even walk too many days in a row they begin to protest. I just wanted to mention a fantastic video I use, Chair Aerobics for Everyone with Nikki Glazer. It's a serious workout that will give you a good burn in the core and thighs while leaving your knees completely out of it.

    Also, I'm controlling my blood sugar too after a Type 2 Diabetes diagnosis. I'm following the WheatBelly diet, which is low carb but goes one step further with basically no grains at all.
