My Goals:
You have to eat to live, but I don't believe that food should be mere sustenance. Food should be a pleasure to eat as well as healthful. I love to travel, and I don't buy designer bags or clothes - I enjoy regional cuisine and adventure! I want to be able to enjoy food, explore the countryside and be healthy doing it.

My Program:
Low grain/starch and exercise.

- Home cooked meals. One dining out option per week.
- 90g protein minimum
- 80g carbs maximum
- Clean eating - high quality vegetables, protein and fruits
- Minimal processed foods
- Low to no sugars
- Low glycemic fruits
- Occasional breads or starches, if desired.
- Sweet treat rarely.
- One glass of wine, if desired
- 30mins light to moderate exercise 4x per week
- 2 hours extended exercise on weekend (hiking, biking, kayaking, snorkeling, swimming, etc)

Personal Information:
I lived 6 wonderful years in Seattle, and 5 in Savannah. I have now returned to my hometown in Colorado Springs.

Other Information:
I'm a software engineer.

    Thank you for your lovely comment on my page - yes, I am also happy that we have become friends.

    I so agree with you about primary care doctors. I do love mine and if I ask her about something she will generally refer me to a specialist, but way too often their first thought is what kind of pill can I give. It also frustrates me that all these drug companies can advertise constantly on television making it sound like just taking their drug will solve all your problems. Sometimes a pill might be necessary but for the most part I think they just cover up the problem. It is so much better to figure out where the problem is coming from in the first place!

    Thanks for your comment - I am very happy to have turned things around for my creaky old bones. I did have to have knee replacement surgery in March 2017 but my other knee, which was almost as bad, hasn't been giving me any trouble at all! So I make sure Daisy and I get in a good walk every morning and do my strength exercises as often as I can! Can't believe what a difference it makes.

    Daisy's other favorite spot is in the bathroom right in front of the toilet - that's where the heat register is for that room. Honestly, she is such a character and she really hates the heat!

    Yeah, I bought some of those clothes, then gained weight and then lost my job. Since I'll not ever need those kind of clothes anymore someone else may as well enjoy them.

    I've been in this house for 36 years this month - my children were 7, 4, 3, and twins 1 month old when we moved in. Honestly, it is rather daunting to think about going through all this stuff - some of it still belongs to the children although I've given them all most everything of theirs. Then I still have some of my mom's - the things I couldn't bear to part with after she died but have all been sitting in the basement ever since. I sold a lot of it on eBay and I think I'm going to have to do that again to get rid of the rest! And this may not work out after all but at least I'll have less stuff!

    I would agree completely, an overnight is never necessary. We at least were able to go home and get some sleep! I hope your management listens and respects your point of view as the manager of what I'm sure is a very productive team!

    A two hour commute really does add to your day - good for you for finding a way to fit in all the important things. I'm afraid when I was working, many of my health related things slid to the bottom of the pile! Back in my work days I was HR to a consulting firm - so many of the consultants worked out of town only to return on weekends. I used to think how lucky they were to have a good wife (or husband as more women were hired) to be at home keeping things going!
