I've been a part of SparkPeople since 2007, but we live in a remote village where internet service is often a challenge. I love it when I can connect to Spark People, because it helps me with personal accountability. (And, thankfully, our current service is much more consistent, so I seem to be on a roll again! In 2013 I spent most of the year in the States helping our youngest son with some of his re-entry adjustments (and my husband travelled back and forth to be with me as much as posible). I actually lost 50 pounds later in the year, which was something of a miracle for me! For the first time in my life, I really didn't have to count points nor calories, and it was also the first time that I lost weight without a lot of extra exercise, since I was recovering from back surgery. 2014 . . . my "skinny" year! I kept it off for most of 2014, but eventually about half crept back on. So hard to adjust to Hubby's habits and wants without me falling back into those same old habits. Am thrilled to now be wearing clothes from 2014, though I'm not quite down to that weight yet. The big difference is that I'd been exercising and toning before my hysterectomy, so things slide on than didn't even at the lower weight. Fun! Fun!
This site remains an encouragement to help me stay on track! As missionaries to Mexico, my biggest obstacles are lack of reliable internet, support, and convenience diet foods. I love the encourgement I get from SparkPeople. Blessings!

My Goals:
Reduce blood pressure
Lose weight
Increase energy and self image
Increase my life longevity (plan to out-live my Mother, who passed at 90--I turned 65 in February!)
My Program:
Recently my husband has taken some positive steps towards improving his health. This has enabled me to make a subtle switch to the DASH diet, which better encapsulates both of our health needs. Of course, I've not exactly announced that to him, but he is accepting more fruits and vegetables and accepting my direction for less sugar in his diet. I, personally have found that truly counting my FREGGIES has made a huge difference in reducing my hunger. And . . . something really strange is happening . . . I'm falling in love with fish. Having grown up as a Kansas farm girl and eating beef my whole life, it's a new/fun surprise that is helping my dietary changes a lot!
Personal Information:
I'm a wife and mother of 3 adults living in the States and grandmother of one AMAZING grandson! I'm also a small-town, Kansas farm girl who has travelled far but never lost a love for her roots and wholesome values she learned there! We live and work in Mexico as missionaries where we minister to a pretty closed, indigenous people group who have a completely different culture and language. Hard work, but the rewards are amazing!

Other Information:
I love to read, bird and butterfly watch, garden, and share Jesus with the precious people of the world. Teaching is my special gifting. Our God is a RESTORATION God--so amazing--so powerful! What a joy to live for Him and have some small part in His Kingdom!
