Back from WDW

Monday, October 20, 2008

Ok, I am back from my 9 day Food and Wine trip to Disney World. The 10k Race for the Taste was on Sunday October 12th- it was freakin' hot and hellishly humid! Those two factors combined made it impossible for me to jog at all like I planned so I walked the entire course and crossed the finish line in 1 hour 41 minutes and some odd seconds!
The humidity really ate me up- the blisters on the bottom of both feet are huge, and unfortunately the medical tape I used to wrap gauze around those blisters then proceeded to rip the skin off the top of my right foot. It was so humid most of the week that the wound never got a chance to dry up and scab over and really looked like it would get infected but soon mellowed out a bit. It is still gross and oozing even now but everything is starting to dry out and I can tell those contractile proteins are at work because it is really really itchy lol!
Anyway, I finished the event, I got my medal (hooray!), and I have seen my photos (and all I can say is I look really freakishly red and hot lol!)- but I Did It!!!
I think I will do more 5k and 10k races but locally...I need this dry air out here in the mountains lol! I have nothing but the deepest admiration for the locals out in Florida who live and train for these races in that climate, but I do not want to ever have to experience that again...well, maybe in another 5 years emoticon

Welcome back! Sorry about the blisters - they sound horrible, but I'm so glad you did it! Way to go! Maybe next summer when I can walk again, we can do a 5k together? I can only run about half of it, but I'm game if you are! A 10K in an hour and 14 minutes is awesome!
