I babysat last night for my nephews and niece. During the night I was playing with my littlest nephew (4 yrs) I was tickling him and talking to him etc....in the middle of the whole thing it was like he totally zoned out. He went from laughing and talking to total quiet, head went down and he looked like he was going to cry. I said his name, no response, said it again, no response. I said his name like 4 maybe 5 different times. Then just as fast as it came on, he snapped out of it and started laughing again. THis happened 4 more times within a 2 hour time period.
THis morning at breakfast we are talking and he did it at the table. I said his name, nothing, said it again, nothing. My older nephew who is 14 says he does this all the time now!!! I brought it up to my brother and my brother said he has been doing this a lot lately, he didn't think much of it until yesterday. THey were watching tv and Dominic was standing near the couch where my brother was at and Dominic again talking to my brother and he "checked out" My brother said he was stroking Dominic's leg, saying his name, he got nothing. My brother said he got right in Dominic's face and sternly said DOMINIC! and that is when Dominic came to because he was confused and yelled back WHAT??
Last night after Rich seen what I was talking about, he got online and looked it up. Discovered **most likely** he is having mini-seizures. One website called them Focal Frontal seizures another called them absence seizures.
Just on pure luck Andy actually has a doctors appointment scheduled tomorrow. Appointment was set up for the kids to get caught up on their vaccinations because they fell behind when their mom was sick and getting her chemo treatments. My brother asked me to go to the appointment with them tomorrow, so I'm cancelling my chiropractor appointment --sniffle, but right now my main concern is my little buddy!!
I totally freaked out last night when he had the first one. Rich was asleep on the couch and it was just Dominic and I and for him to go from teasing me, tickling him and laughing to this silence, heavy eyelids, glossy looking eyes and like he was going to cry...this is the reaction each time and then from him to just *SNAP* out of it, scared the crap out of me!!
Nothing like starting the New Year out on a good note!! Holy Crap!
We took the kids to the doctors this morning. They got their shots updated and we talked about Dominic's symptoms. Rich found the correct info. on the internet the other night. Doctor said it was classic Petite Mal Seizures...or Absence Seizures. The office is setting up an EEG for Dominic. DOminic leaves in 4 days for Disney world. doc said an adult needs to be with on ALL rides and he is NOT to be on any type of roller coasters. While in the office Dominic ended up having 2 of the seizures...of course they were both right before and right after the doctor entered the room. Doctor said these types of seizures are VERY common in school age children, no medication is necessary--thank god!!!
